I never knew Best of Raw Volume 3 even existed haha, I had the volume 1 & 2 double pack and would always check for the volume 3 because Michael Cole references it at the end of tape 2. I never knew they made it. Those tapes were excellent, I watched 1 & 2 SO many times. I wish there was more stuff like that on the network. Totally. The coolest things the WWF used to put out were year in review VHS tapes for specific superstars. Rock had 2: Know your Role (highlighting his feuds from KOTR 99 till RR 00) & Just Bring It which looked at the rest of his 2000 & 2001. Austin had atleast 1 I know of, probably more. Jericho had Break Down the Walls looking at his run from his debut in 99 to mid 2000. Kurt Angle had one too. These were like early versions of the Chronicles or 365 docs they do now on the network with not as much backstage footage but still plenty of cool behind the scenes interviews & stuff outside the ring. As for Best of RAW volume 3. It is definitely not as well known as Vol 1 & 2. They were both released on DVD while V3 was not. Meaning it is quite rare these days. It's a tape I cherish alot, so much so I made sure to burn it onto my computer. If you would like the Google Drive file, PM me with your email & I'll hook you up You’re amazing for that, I’ll probably give you a ring. Volume 3 was like a folk tale in my house haha, we always looked for it but thought maybe it just wasn’t made and they intended on making it. I still have the “Stone Cold Says So” VHS tape, I have watched that almost to the point of being able to recite it haha. I never had the documentary VHS tapes, but I know exactly what you’re talking about, they always advertise them at the beginning of the PPV vhs tapes. I wasn’t big into the documentary ones at that time, now, my God, they’re my favorite thing. Back then, I just wanted the PPV’s.

That’s awesome stuff that you remember that so vividly. Feel free to explain how great it was, it’s a discussion forum, discuss! haha Ok, you’ve twisted my arm!! This is more my personal experience than any sort of critique of the show. My first exposure to wrestling would have been in the mid to late eighties, to the World of Sport British Wrestling. A far cry from its peak, it was a shell of its once exciting brand. Fast forward to the beginning of 92 and my family had cable tv installed (I’m from a relatively poor family, so we were in no position to have gotten sky when it became popular in the late eighties). I had just turned 12 and it was like a whole new world had been opened up to me. First show I watched was the Simpsons. WWF wrestling was popular with school peers at the time, so naturally I was going to check it out. I seem to think that I’d heard of Hulk Hogan, Andre the Giant and King Kong Bundy (though I may be confusing him with the British wrestler King Kong Kirk). The first angle I ever saw was the Rockers on the Barber Shop. I had been told that wrestling was “fake” but couldn’t compute that if it was so fake, why did the blonde guy throw the dark haired guy through a window. Marty was bleeding, so it must have been real. I sometimes wish I’d retained that naivety. I loved all the weird and wonderful colourful characters. My initial favourite was my fellow “Scottish” person, Roddy Piper. Repo Man made me laugh, The Mountie was a hoot and there were too many to mention but loved the majority of who I saw, mainly bad guys though. Then there was Ric Flair. In the hype for the Rumble, he just seemed boring - plain trunks, no gimmick (I.e. occupation) and looked old. I saw him no different to Dale Wolfe, Jim Evans, Mike Sharpe et al. In the Rumble match, when Flair came out and Heenan went in to complete meltdown, I became hooked on wrestling. Between Ric’s performance and Heenan frantically worrying about his “meal ticket” was a fantastic match. If you told me The Brains job was really on the line I’d have believed you. Nowadays there are times I put the event on in the background. I’ve seen it so many times that I can picture what’s going on by the commentary without looking. The Flair flop, Woooo, his interview -tear in my eye and pay homage to the man etc - and general work rate in the ring instantly made me a Nature Boy fan. Special mention for Vince saying Haku (another favourite of mine). Have so many great memories of the Rumble event. I have butterflies in my stomach just typing this. Dude, that was a nice read, thank you for sharing that. I thought of Flair the EXACT same way! I actually watched WCW Saturday Night in the early 90’s as well, so I actually knew guys like Flair, Steiners, Luger before they showed up in WWF. But it wasn’t until they showed up in the WWF that I really invested in them at that time, WCW was kind of just like minor league wrestling for me. But I remember Flair coming in and I was like oh God, the old guy!? Lol. I was 6 at the time of Rumble ‘92, i KNEW Flair was gonna win because I hated him so much haha, just because he looked old. I hated Flair so much I really resented Hogan following that show for helping him win as I perceived it, and I loved Hogan but I was like, there’s no way Flair will eliminate Sid. Looking back on it now, it’s one of the best Rumbles and definitely one of my favorites. Heenan makes the whole match honestly, he’s just as important to that rumbles longevity as Flair IMO. I do the same thing, I throw it on just to listen to it and I know exactly what you mean, same here. I can picture it just by the sound. It would be interesting to see if we can name all 30 participants in a row haha Haha What’s the story with Vince saying Haku? You just like the way he says it? The big 4 from their start until about 93...I probably watch 1-3 of them a week Great taste my friend. I can’t get enough of those years. I wish they’d upload the Superstars of Wrestling episodes from that era.

I can see the NFL players being in the battle Royal being a big deal for a kid back then especially. I use to think LT vs Bam Bam was one of the greatest matches in WrestleMania history when I was a kid lol, the novelty of seeing a Football player wrestle blew my mind.

The Bulldogs vs Dream Team was the match I watched over and over.

Yeah, the way that Vince barked out “HAAAAKUUUUU” when he was doing the introduction for all the participants right at the start of the event. For everything Vince has gotten wrong along the way, I’ve yet to come across anyone that can sell their product as well as him. It was magical at the time as in my head anyone could have won the event. But looking back, the Rumble match was stacked in such a way that even if you were knowledgeable, it would still leave you guessing right until the end.

Dude, I’m with you, that intro is literally only 2nd in my mind to the WrestleMania 6 intro but not far off (both are done by Vince). “It’s tiiiiiiime to RUMMMMMBLE….ITS TIME FOR THE ROOOOOOOOOYAL RUUUUUUMBLE!” haha. You hit the nail on the head there, Vince announcer voice is the one I hear when I think of wrestling. It’s the voice I’d replicate when I played with my wrestlers as a kid, I’d even commentate over my video game matches in Vinces voice haha. I felt that same way though, anybody could win and part of that was ignorance, like I wasn’t thinking, well Haku isn’t going to draw houses as champion so he won’t win haha, but at the same time, the show was presented so well to me that had he won, it would have seemed like, ok, this guy may not have been the best wrestler, but he was the best guy at dumping guys over the top rope and he won the belt for it.

One of the reasons is the Steiners/Headshrinkers match. When I was a kid especially, some of the moves they pulled off in that match, man I was recreating them with my toys immediately following that PPV haha. Ricks power slam off the headshinkers shoulders, I mean, it’s still awesome but back then, that was an incredible move. I always liked when both Rick & Scott go up to the same turnbuckle in that match…again, this gave me so much new material for my toy matches haha. I always think of WrestleMania 9 as a Steiner exclusive WrestleMania.

Royal Rumble 92. First big event I ever saw (and still one of my favourites). I watched it when it was first shown on sky and taped the rerun. I remember when the undertaker came out it cut to the adverts and there was an advert for NatWest bank (uk) that used the excellent Crockett’s Theme. Was the only set of adverts I didn’t fast forward purely for the tune. Seems a popular choice in this thread so no need for me to explain how great an event it was. Honourable mentions go to Survivor Series 89, 93 and 95. Haha, they taught us to play that tune at High School! Our music teacher made us study it! I started watching in late 1991 and quickly became a huge fan and collected several VHS tapes from the shops to catch on the history. I watched the hell out of Wrestlemania 6, Survivor Series ‘88, ‘89, & ‘90 and SummerSlam ‘92.

Oh man, if we expand this to just wrestling DVD’s/tapes, I use to watch that first 3 disc Taker dvd (“TOMBSTONE”) just about twice a week for like a year lol. I’d make some microwaveable mini tacos and a cup of cheese and have a good night haha.

That’s like my favorite Undertaker incarnation haha, he’s awesome. That was a great dvd though, at that time it seemed like it had a million matches on it, I enjoyed popping in the DVD’s 1 by 1 and running through the entire 3 discs in order

Probably Royal Rumble 91 or 92. Great PPV's. Summer Slam 1989 & 1991 and WM7 also would be up there.

I totally agree man. It was right in that part of my childhood where I really started to like the things I liked, I was 6. I remember that show so vividly, the outdoor setting to this day is my favorite for wrestling shows. Aesthetically, this WrestleMania is the first one I think of when I think of WrestleMania, it looked so awesome. I loved all the guys as well, I was really getting into Bret at the time, I had just gone to the mall at that time and found the new Hasbros’s of Taker & Hitman. I don’t think people really understand the part toys played in creating stars for kids. Having those toys really validated them in my eyes, like these guys were legit now and seeing them on tv was like seeing my toys come to life. I love that time period as well though my friend. Those were some great days.
