You know how Hasbro is doing a retro line of Marvel Legends figures based on figures and packaging from the X-Men/Marvel/Spider-Man Toy Biz figures from the 90s?
Well, wouldn’t it be cool if Mattel did the same thing with WWE figures for their Elite line based on the packaging and attires of Jakks BCA? It might be a cool way to spur sales of figures we already have but in attires reminiscent of Jakks attires that Mattel hasn’t made. We have the new Legends line which is based on the old Legends line from 10 years ago, but 10 years ago isn’t nostalgic. It might spur people to buy another D-Lo if the packaging looks like Jakks Superstars and bonus points if the attire is based on his BCA figure.
Another cool thing might be packaging and figures based on appearances in classic video games like that GameStop line. It feels like Hasbro is all about cashing in on the vintage appeal of their properties with modern style figures in vintage-inspired packaging. Mattel is just straight up rereleasing things that came out 30+ years ago.

Great minds think alike, my friend... Hey Steve - looking at the things Hasbro was/is doing with various figures, where they release the modern/6" version of a figure on a vintage style cardback (eg. Spiderman, X-Men, Star Wars: Vintage/Episode One/POTF)... is this a thing you guys have looked at or discussed at all? eg. have modern figures of Hogan, Savage, Warrior, Jake, Piper etc. on their original Hasbro cardbacks - or even Diesel, Razor, Shawn, Bret etc. on the Jakks Bone-Crunching style card... Would such a thing even be possible (because of the different companies)? Thanks.

Seeing I am a loose collector packaging means little or nothing to me. I hate to say it because I know they take pride in designing something visually appealing and while I appreciate it it’s sort of lost on me once I get the figure. Like with the Ultimate Sgt Slaughter was it neat with the retro packaging? Sure but that wasn’t why I wanted it. Honestly if I had been able to order one he would be loose on my shelves and the packaging would have ended up in storage or buried in the closet.

But it would be a cool way to squeeze in modern day homages to retro attires like that red singlet X-Pac or a Double J or a Razor Ramon.

I know Mattel has done something like this back in 2018 for the 50th Anniversary of Hot Wheels. They released a series of cars that were in packaging that was similar to the ones that came out in 1968.

Funny, I did a 90s Jakks mockup with that Ultimate Undertaker. I've been planning on doing more mockups since this one got a bit of love:
