So I was sitting here making a list of all the figures I would like to buy over the next few months and I noticed that it can become overwhelming to keep up with getting all the figures that are coming out so fast, from a financial standpoint. Just sitting down looking at how much I spend / could spend at any given time on figs can be kind of shocking when you put it on paper.
Just WWE alone, when you look at Elite lines, UE, basics, battelpacks, Amazon exc., Target exc., Walmart exc., RSC exc., crowdfunding campaign. Is a lot in itself.
Then you also have the AEW line, NJPW/Super 7 line.
As an avid figure collector who would like to have all the figures I / they want in their collection. You could easily spend hundreds a month trying to keep up with buying all these figures.
Then if you fall behind a few months or a year and can no longer find a figure(s) you want on RSC or retail, you known must pay ridiculous prices to get them off eBay.
So my question to you all is how do you manage figure collecting. Do you only buy specific ones, do you have a set budget you want go over, do you make a spreadsheet or plan of when you will buy a fig(s), do you only buy when they hit retail?
Like what is your method to keep up with figure collecting. I just thought this would be a good conversation to have and to share with each other about how we do things. Because I know how frustrating and overwhelming it can be at times with this hobby when it comes to finances.
Also do you feel Mattel or Jazwares are putting out to many figures at a time and/or has to many separate lines going on?

No, because Toys R Us going out of business and being unemployed has kept me in check.

Nah. At least not wrestling figures. Most everything I want isn’t too hard to get and I don’t mind paying secondary prices on stuff I missed.

It can be overwhelming. I have to build a strategy and prioritize. I’m a MOC collector but have started buying some doubles to have loose which sends the cost skyrocketing.
I have zero interest in the current WWE product so I don’t buy any current wrestlers, just legends, which helps.
I started being a completist for AEW MOC but with the unmatched figures joining unrivaled I don’t have room to continue. I decided with series 6 Unrivaled and series 2 Unmatched I’ll only buy FTITL.
These are some of the compromises I’ve had to make to keep up. I feel like I’ve hit a sweet spot where I’m happy with everything I get and don’t regret anything I pass on.

Nope. I get carried away sometimes, and especially over the past year, I've spent a touch bit more than I should be spending, but at the risk of sounding like I'm flexing on 'em...I can do that. The biggest risk I take in doing so is not having a place to put what I buy.

Running little low on space; but sometimes I buy little to much. But; I guess it's my comfort time in stressful times. And it's been stressful time.
I pretty much stopped collecting between 2015-2018 I very rarely bought figures. And I would say I still am not a huge collector; but I use to shame myself for collecting. But at this point; I stopped caring. I just vow to myself I will not let it get in my way of what's important.
Eating right; and fitness takes nice chunk of my change as does Jiu Jitsu. And I like expensive equipment for my work and I also like skincare and keeping my locks healthy. And spoiling everyone around me; giving to charities and I like cool shoes and clothes. So I am a bit strict on myself with collecting.

having a credit card helps. i use my debit purchases for 'real life' stuff and all my frivolous toy purchases go on the credit card. that way i can chip away at the debt if i get a little spendy, but also i can track my specific spending on this kind of stuff and limit myself if need be.

Nah I only collect legends and there’s not many coming out these days so it’s easy. I keep a list in notes on my phone and set eBay searches up.

I've set a limit of what I'm "allowed" to want (only my favourite favourites) and that keeps me from my collection spiralling and things feeling overwhelming. I like Bobby Roode, but is he one of my favourites of all time? No. Then he doesn't make the cut.
It also helps to not watch current shows. Can't become a fan if I've never seen them wrestle!

No. I limit myself to one per character so I'm only picking up first time in the lines now.

No. It should not be that way. Action figure collecting is supposed to be a hobby and something that brings you joy. People on here get so caught up in stuff, and I get it’s a toy specific forum, but prioritize. If it’s costing you too much and that’s a strain, then try and find something that doesn’t stress you out. Toys shouldn’t stress you out. They should do the opposite.

There's a lot right now so I get that it can be overwhelming at times. I think the key is having a set plan and not trying to get EVERYTHING. I'm a legends and AEW guy (along with whenever the NJPW/Super 7 actually comes out) so those are my priorities. I've cut way, way back on anything modern WWE Mattel and wouldn't ever really consider basics/battle-packs/etc.
It's hard to get out of the trap of "I've gotta have this!" so I think having a plan in advance really helps with this. These sets with modern elite guys always look awesome to me but a few months after would I really care about them? That kinda thinking helps.

Sometimes. This isn't a cheap hobby and it adds up quick but these last couple years I haven't spent as much as I have in the past as I am cutting back on repeats of guys.

It used to a little. Not financially but I was a ferocious hunter at the beginning if I knew a new set was hitting. Such a relief to find everything I needed but now I’m familiar with not getting what I want so it doesn’t even bother me anymore. I’m really glad for that

No. I limit myself to one per character so I'm only picking up first time in the lines now. This is something I do as well with not buying to many per character. Like Jeff, Roman, Cena. Guys who I know wil have a nother elite in two months. I try to get the first in the lines as well and only stick to standout PPV attires for others. Like Seth Rollins is a big multiple guy for me because he has so man great PPV attires. So I find myself getting a lot of those. But other guys once I have two elites of them, unless its a flashback. Than I usually don't buy a 3rd or fourth unless its some type of iconic attire.

When I look at the list of outstanding Legends / Flashbacks in my collection, absolutely.
But then I remember it’s for fun and spending money on figures isn’t a necessity.
Enjoy the ride. 🤘🏻

Yea I hear you on this one, I use to buy so many full sets but known its mostly 2-4 per set I will get. I think the elite 89 set will be the first full set I brought in a while. I had to cut back on collecting multiples of guys and also prioritize what wrestlers to get over others. Like if someone I know is going to have another elite this year. I will hold off or if its their first one I will get it and then when the second one comes out I will really think hard before I buy. I also will not preorder without pictures anymore unless its a first time in the line.

With the exception of a few talents, I only collect up until 98 because that was the year I stopped watching wrestling weekly. And I've been collecting since Mattel took over so I have all the ones that they can't put out anymore like Bundy and Martel and Road Warriors. So at this point with my collection it's going to be hard for them to release anything I really want. I was looking forward to Elite 88 Trish but the regular gear is wrong and the head is wrong for the chase. I don't want anything from the leaked Legends coming up. Early WCW and JCP is my sweet spot but I hated Mean Mark back then so I'm not getting that figure.

The biggest risk I take in doing so is not having a place to put what I buy. Ha if you can afford it buy it, its your money . So I don't consider that flexing. I was just seriously think about the overall amount we can spend on wrestling figures when you look at it as a whole. Like I know in the moment when your buying them it only seems like $20, $100 or whatever here or there. But just adding things up I was kinda surprised at the total number I or anyone could spend in a few months if we where buying a lot of different figures from multiple lines.
