I’ll bite. It looks like people just wanted to make a comment about “nah don’t get overwhelmed, just toys” and didn’t read all of your topic.
I’ve got rules on what I buy but it is still probably 25% of the total line. I use a spreadsheet to track purchases and to make sure I’m filling the gaps that I want.
It is the figure name, line, cost, where did I get it and where all did they wear the attire.
I sell off extra accessories, belts shirts etc… that covers about 40-50% of my collecting costs. For example, I ordered legends Bam Bam, but will sell off his title. Otherwise it will go into a plastic box and I’ll never touch it again. Being a loose collector seems to be waaaayyyyy cheaper.

I generally keep a list of what I want in my phone and delete them as I buy them. I wouldn’t say I get or feel overwhelmed but sometimes I’ll pass on stuff I want if I know I’ll find them again. Luckily I I have 2 targets and 5 Walmart’s that service multiple days a week for work so I eventually find everything with little problem. I think Gorilla Monsoon has been the only chase I’ve never seen in stores since they started with them.

Well first thanks for reading the whole thing. But I am open to everyone's input and opinions. I very rarely get mad about people stating their opinions on a topic. I also have a notebook where I right down the figures and lines and I cut back on multiple of figures unless its a specific iconic attire.. Also I was thinking about starting to collect loose again for older figures. During 2018-2019 I wasn't really financially able to collect, so I lost out on the majority of figures that came out those years and I wanted to start going back and buying some but it just throws me off that most of those figs are like $60-$100+ known a piece. I have only spent over a $100 four times on a figure. Demolition (Ax & Smash)$260 for the set. The legends series all black Road Warriors $160 for the set, the first RSC Cactus Jack $100 and the E12 Kane $150. And those where like 5 years ago when it looked like we would never see those attires again. For older figures I missed out on I will not pay over $50 for most. But I was thinking about buying loose older figures, because they are cheaper. The only problem I have is when I first started collecting Mattel figures in 2015 I brought some loose and they where terribly lose in the legs and waist. So it turned me off to buying loose figures and I started only buying sealed in box. But I have considered probably buying loose again to get those figures I missed.

I read it, it’s just weird talking about action figure finances with strangers on the internet. More people need to post their collections and not whatever else pops into their head.

I'm very picky about buying loose. One way I've been able to tell what kind of condition a figure is in is looking very closely at the paint, especially on the face/head. I also ask questions before I decide to buy anything if I feel I need to. Ask for more pictures, ask how the joints are, and look closely at pictures and see if there's any paint wear.

I manage my collecting by making my choices very specific - Golden era with a strong focus on the WMIII roster. I’m missing King Harley Race but it wasn’t meant to be. And that’s how it works for me. I stick to what makes sense for me but if I can’t get it,…no worries.
It was a banner year for me, though, as I was able to buy 3 figures in Valentine, Beefcake and Davey Boy Smith. Rock and roll.

Wrestling stuff I’m never overwhelmed since I really only do legends. The biggest PITA is the amount of stuff I want that are exclusives.
I also collect Hot Toys MCU stuff and that has been overwhelming as of late since a ton of stuff that got pandemic delayed have been coming fast and furious all of a sudden. Thankfully I flex payed most so I’m not getting the huge charges all at once.

I miss the playsets Mattel used to make like the entrance stages and the backstage playsets and all that jazz. For years the only playsets have been for the fake Barbies or the gimmick lines. The main lines get stumpy vehicles. I want more pieces to attach to all the old K-Mart sets I have! I think the highlight of Mattel’s output was 2011-2015.

I am a little. However I don’t collect any other companies. Other than wwe. And I set my limit at 2008. Don’t collect anything past that so makes it a little easier

This past year has been really challenging as a collector. The spike in prices has created some legit FOMO. In the past, there was a pretty good chance that if I passed on a figure and changed my mind down the road I could grab it for well under retail on RSC or loose off of ebay. But passing on a figure now means there's a good chance I'll never see it again at retail, it'll be sold out online, and within a few months online prices will be well above what I want to pay.
At the same time, my collecting has really expanded over the past year. Really curious if anyone is/was in a similar boat. The Jazwares has taken off, plus I started collecting Micro Brawlers, the GI Joe line, and have continued picking up Marvel Legends and Star Wars Black figures. On top of that, I got back into Magic The Gathering for the first time since high school, and taught my wife to play while we were cooped up in the house. Figures can't even hold a candle to the price inflation there.
The end result was I found myself spending waaaaay more than I was comfortable with, even if it was within our budget. The good news is that I'm pretty much caught up because I bought everything I was interested as it came out. But I'm trying to be a lot more selective, and have a mental shopping list of what's coming out over the next 3 or so months that I want to better space out purchases.
Ultimately I think the next phase will come this fall or winter. I have a big backlog of figures waiting to be opened and shelves that need reorganized. I have a feeling that I'm going to downsize or need to majorly reorganize in order to fit everything in my displays.

I don't get anything from today's WWE product. Legends only on a case by case basis. Like I want to get Dustin from aew, but that's only because I know him as goldust and I like him. But that's as far as I go with it.
Honestly, it's bit overwhelming TRYING to get some of them like legends 11.

I recently spent several days bagging and labeling my elites/basics/ultimates. Over the years I've just stacked figures in totes (with bubble wrap between the rows), but for my sanity I wanted to bag them with their original accessories and label the series and exclusivity.
When I finished, it felt great to have everything catalogued and pictured.
I don't set a limit on WWE Mattel and Destiny 2 items. I collect Arcade 1up, as I think it's fun to hunt for them while they are on clearance. I also collect video games (mainly Switch games). Nothing like Limited Run stuff, but RPG games mostly. I put a stop to hunting DC and Marvel because I've gotten burnt out on all the different story arcs.
To keep my spending habits within my comfort levels, I pay my bills first and add to my savings second. Then, whatever I have left I spend on wants and needs. I don't get every wrestling figure, but I'll almost always buy at the most opportune time or buy the figures I think will be harest to find first.
Lastly, I invested in a rather large display case. Only things I display in there are left out to be admired, the rest gets stored. Keeps things fresh all the time! Also it helps to have such a loving and understanding wife!

yes, i think theres honestly too much going on right now and everyone is just trying to constantly make as much as possible to make endless amounts of cash and profit, so that now they will have completely unrealistic expectations of "profit goals" so the cost of everything is going to continue to go up and up and up without an end in sight some day while im still living a single 6" plastic action figure is going to cost $35 (US) while most of the country is still barely making $17 an hour theres way too ing much shit there's too many sets in a year, exclusives all over the place, chase figures, retail exclusives, internet exclusives, new lines, extensions of existing lines like, yes on one level im happy to be getting figures of certain characters, but when i actually sit back and look at the landscape of "collecting"....its absolutely out of ing control with these companies

I don’t think overwhelming is the word I would use. There is a good amount to keep up with for sure, but for the majority of what I buy RSC and Amazon have allowed me to keep with up getting the product I want for the last year and a half or so during this pandemic. It would be very overwhelming if I was mostly relying on in-store retail to buy what I want. The more overwhelming part for me is where to put everything after I buy it, which is also partly because I keep my stuff MOC.

I'm overwhelmed by the fickle nature of this pre-order system, how unreliable it is, and how "guidance" seems to change at the drop of a hat. It seems the public dates given for pre-orders are never accurate. If pre-orders do go up, they are at odd times and if you miss it, that's it. Then you have to rely on spotters or other means to actually find the figures.
And then they over-pack peg warmers that no one wants to buy, while the better figures are almost impossible to find. Rather than overwhelming, I find it frustrating more than anything.

Not really. My WWE figure buying has gone down tremendously over the last year and a half to 2 years. I would say my collection is honestly almost complete at this point. I'm not a fan of the current product at all and Bill and the team for some reason don't like making RA Era figures.

I limit myself to characters from the 80s and 90s.
If I could do one thing differently, I'd have avoided getting into custom stuff. It really never ends when it comes to custom heads, figures, hands, decals etc etc.

It certainly can be at times. I basically collect WWE Mattel, AEW, NECA (not everything but I like a lot of their horror stuff), and assorted order wrestling lines from the past. I have rules for collecting with all the lines I collect. I’m nowhere near a completest. I collect mainly flashbacks in the Mattel lines with newer characters I like. Although I used to buy significantly more newer superstars, I scaled back, then started up again during the pandemic. I grab them occasionally when I don’t have any immediate needs as far as newer flashbacks. I will pass if I don’t like the execution of a figure. The secondary value exploding on figures has made it much more difficult. As mentioned, it’s completely frustrating dealing with all of Mattel’s various fragile systems of pre-ordering, finding exclusives, random exclusives never showing up locally at retail, etc. It shouldn’t be this difficult to give a company my money. I’m also a big fan of sneakers and the losses are easier to deal with, because you don’t really need anything. Something else comes along. But that’s not the case with wrestling figures, with everything being character specific. Sometimes guys get one figure and you barely get a crack at finding one. But it’s gotten easier years into collecting on letting stuff go once I didn’t find it. Not paying stupid prices from scalpers for stuff I missed out on.

I feel overwhelmed hitting the refresh button for Beefcake on Target's website.
