I thought The Rock was really hard to buy online , which is the reason it goes for so much now ?

Shawn, Rock, and Warrior started it, but the quality is quickly going downhill. Tons of modern Rock figures have issues, Cena is a straight repaint, Hogan is a straight repaint with left on stubble, and Hardy is hardly “Ultimate” beyond the torso. He barely comes with any hands. 2 sets of hands and 2 heads for an ultimate? Either give us 3 heads or give us multiple hands. Not to mention, the torso is wayyyy too big. I think this line is in danger of jumping the shark, and I think the Amazon line will be to blame.

My first UE was Bret. I passed a few times due to the cost, but I was at the Gulf Port, on vacation, last summer and decided that I better get him because Bret is a favorite and I didn't want to regret not picking him up.
I think missing out on UE Warrior and HBK was a wakeup call to those who weren't on the bandwagon wagon.
It's not just FOMO and exclusivity, it's the secondary market that drives the collector community.
People that waited, myself included, to buy their first UE, were blown away (well, most of us). Lucky, I was able to find Warrior (missing a few accessories) for a steal. However, I may never get HBK (or Slaughter) for a good price. So I may never get the chance to own them.

One thing no one has mentioned so far: Given Mattel's history with specialty lines at higher price points, (Defining Moments, Entrance Greats, etc.) I think there was a not insignificant number of collectors who were waiting to see if the line contained after 2-3 series before they jumped on.

Good line-ups with overall good follow-thru on the executions.

http://instagram.com/p/CRStFLes5La This figure got me into ultimate edition, this was my very first UE followed by Triple H, then Hogan and that macho man is the thing of beauty. I can't wait for Kane now.

I'm tempted to get Flair now. I've been waiting on Mattel for ages to release mid 90s Flair and it just seems like it's not happening.

I’m surprised that Macho Man hasn’t sold for more that the retail $30 or so. I could see that, Hollywood Hogan, and Ric Flair going up in value in time.

IDK, Walmart is carrying UE now so that adds significant opportunities to provide regular series UE figures. While is dislike figures being exclusives, it's part of the pain that comes with the pleasure of any collection. I don't think this is a specialty series that is going to take breaks or be discontinued like Rumblers or Retros. The opposite is probably more true. Mattel will try their luck at rebranding Entrance Greats and Definding Moments with an Ultimates make over at an even high premium and we are going to eat it up!

I can only speak for myself, but I thought they were crap until I bought Brock on a whim off of Ringside. I thought this after buying the HHH just to check them out (which I still think is crap). The Brock is amazing. The Hollywood is really good, the Macho is really good, and the Flair and Austin are probably the best yet, specifically Flair - although I think that the Cena/Rock series took a step backward, and those will be two of the least valuable since they'd already been released in arguably better form previously.

I agree with you about HHH, that figure is crap. That’s my favorite hhh so far For me, I started watching wrestling in '98 - so DX HHH is my favourite version of him.

The UE Triple H is one of the best UE’s to date. Honestly I think only the Hollywood and Flair are better.
And on the flip side I think the worst three are in order… Edge - Doesn’t feel like an UE especially with the finishing moves style head. The figure needed another head or something.
Nakamura - besides his NXT debut match vs Zayn I just never been impressed with him.
Hardy - I know it’s not out yet but the figure is way to large in the chest and shoulders. They need a smaller upper torso before they make these smaller wrestlers.
