I'm annoyed! Yesterday I walked away from getting a Conan Super 7 series that I was really excited about seeing in person, because I had to use that money to get someone a birthday present that they will probably be indifferent to.
i don't like being in that position of having to walk away from a toy that I am passionate and excited to get just to use that budget to get spend it on someone....well, just because you think you have to.
Has something similar happened to you before when toy collecting, where...in this specific scenario, where you put it on the back burner to get someone a birthday gift that you know they wouldn't get that same amount of excitement as you would from getting that toy you just left behind?

I budget pretty well and try and have an idea of when stuff drops so don’t really have that issue often. Sometimes I regret waiting when I pay more, but it’s not too bad really.

Walking away is much better than a big credit card bill as it is always 'one more'.

It usually only hits me a few years later. Did I need Elite Series 24 Wade Barrett? Absolutely not. But now I wish I had it.

Walking away is much better than a big credit card bill as it is always 'one more'. Been there. This is 100 percent truth. When you start spending the money you don't have you can always manage to find a way to justify spending a little more and a little more. Better to just learn to live with those feelings of disappointment and realize it is just toys.

I walked away from Rikishi & Eddie Hall of Fame figures when I first started and regret it now.
Walked away from the HBK/Brock Lesnar Ultimates too. I REGRET all 4 of these decisions.

My older brother always told me to work as hard as I need so I can always have the things I want. Instead I cherish my time..I have learned to not want the things I cannot afford. Still I work hard but there is a line for me.

I remember seeing each figure from the first three Ultimate Edition waves multiple times. I passed each time, and although I have most now, I still regret it.

Well what I do if it's a toy that I want and I can't afford to get it right now just put it in the good old hide layaway hide it in a real good spot and come back and get it when you have the money.

I just think back (with hindsight goggles) and wish I had made certain purchases. The only time I walked away feeling unsure of not making a purchase is when Legends figures dropped and were easy to find. I had L5 Macho Man in hand but didn’t have a need for him as I didn’t collect wrestling figures. I put it back and left the store but couldn’t stop thinking about it so I turned around and bought it. That was my first Mattel WWE purchase.
“What other figures were on the shelf that day? Do you remember?”
Good question. Yeah, so, Rick Martel and Akeem were ready for me to take them home but I was enamored with Savage so much that he’s the only one leaving with me that day. I wasn’t starting a wrestling figure collection and that’s even not One Man Gang - I’ll just wait for Mattel to make that one if I’m gonna collect wrestling figures.

Still I work hard but there is a line for me. I was taught that way by my parents growing up. I did it for years and then realized that it’s terrible to have the money for stuff and no time to enjoy any of it.

One of the worst feelings in toy collecting is seeing a figure you've been hunting on the shelves, only to find that it has a terrible paint job or misaligned face printing.

If I see what I want in person & can afford it I buy it. I’ve walked away from lots of thinks I couldn’t afford at the time. Toys or not.

E71 was a blink and you miss it sort of thing up here. I happened across Adam Cole exactly once...and his belt, his extra hands, his shirt, his armband, and his elbow pad had all been swiped. Wound up getting lucky and trading with a user here. Otherwise, I still wouldn't have that figure.

I don't walk away from figures I want. At least not because of not being able to afford/budget it. I'm sure there have been a few that I walked away from due to damaged packaging. Off the top of my head I can recall not buying a Royal Rumble Lita due to the box condition. I learned my lesson when I was new to collecting and passed on buying a Network Spotlight AJ Styles at TRU. I wasn't 100% sucked into collecting at that point, so I'm like oh I don't need another AJ already I'll just get it another time. Little did I know that I would never see it again and have to buy it on the secondary market. So if I find something I know I want to have, passing on it isn't an option unless the box is damaged.
