actually, Arnold sued people for claiming that his heart was a ticking time bomb: news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/entertainment/574902.stm and the majority of golden age bodybuilders lived long healthy lives, many of which who were featured on Pumping Iron are still going strong. but let’s not let reality get in the way of hyperbole. Well he did say it at one time or another - I didn't just make it up. actually, you did make it up. as Arnold has never spoken that way about PEDs, ever, at all. and is still involved with the bodybuilding world. never mind the fact that the stuff triple h was using is far different than the steroids of Arnold’s day.

I've solved the puzzle. Arnold did not ever say the ticking time bomb line, however it did come from another former bodybuilder around Arnold's time who was a former PED user who became very outspoken about it afterwards. "“Steroids are a ticking time bomb. Even when you stop taking them for 20 years like I did, the seeds of destruction are still planted." -- This quote came from Steve Michalik, who won Mr. America in the 70's. He died at 63.

Arnold did have a heart procedure around the time he was playing Mr Freeze in Batman and Robin. He said something like it was a preemptive surgery.

Yeah I don’t know if he said it was a ticking time bomb as that was 25 years ago. I just remember him saying he wanted to take care of it then before it became a problem.

Has there ever been any update to his condition? It almost looks like it is either a more serious than expected issue or they use his break to keep him silently aways.

Not much is out there, other than Meltzer saying that people he talked to said it was very bad and he doesn’t expect him to ever wrestle again and it would be awhile before we saw him.

Weird and scaring how fast this happened. Really hope to see him return fulltime one day (not as an active wrestler). Besides all the negativity he did a pretty fantastic job with NXT black&gold. However it does make sense that guys like Pritchard and Laurinatis are taking over more and more parts of WWE if his health condition doesn’t allow him to come back in the near future. I would still love to see Steph and him take over the Federation when the day has come.

right, but the issue was a misquote concerning arnold in this thread. Yeah I don’t know if he said it was a ticking time bomb as that was 25 years ago. I just remember him saying he wanted to take care of it then before it became a problem. In Arnold’s book he said his family had a history of early deaths due to a heart defect. His surgery was preemptive and had nothing to do with anything he may have been taking during his bodybuilding and Hollywood days. You’re right that it was done to prevent something worse from eventually happening.
