As someone with an advanced degree in political science and working in a related field I second the earlier sentiments that these boards should avoid delving into politics. I suppose it is to some degree unavoidable, though, given this was partly a discussion as to why prices are going up and that is often impacted by economic and fiscal policies. But please avoid it if at all possible. It can really ruin the escape of talking about toys.

Yeah, I can’t apply for that because I actually worked through last year. If I did, it would get rejected. Surely you know the difference between “assistance for people who were fired and couldn’t find another job for reasons beyond their control” and “free money for lazy people” though, right? A lot of assumptions and narratives there friend (you and jimfriend must be pals). There’s a lot of people who were forced out of work (my clients being heavily affected by this), and have had ample opportunities to get back into the work force but chose to sit at home and collect other taxpayer money instead. Surely you’ve watch the news at some point over the past 18 months, haven’t you? www.google.com/amp/s/amp.usatoday.com/amp/7826616002

Bro I literally posted like an hour ago an article examining this and showing there’s minimal correlation to what you’re describing in regards to depressed wages or job availability. It’s a talking point, an untrue one based on prejudice. And I posted a link to an article that counters yours, yet you ignored it. We can argue for days about this but to say migrants have no negative impact on the economy is just not true. Taking into account there willingness to work for less wages compared to native workers, many that don’t pay taxes (again, not all migrants, so you don’t have to make assumptions again), and the fact that on average, they receive more government aid than native citizens, and you have a recipe for disaster. The funny thing is migrant workers weren’t even my main point; it was the fact that the government keeps printing money and giving it to people refusing to work (again, not poor people as you assumed), yet you turned it into “yOu’Re pReJuDiCe!” It’s not prejudice. It’s doing research and coming to an informed decision. Mate you posted an article from george baros, dude has been called out by multiple economists for misconstruing and in some cases making up data that isn’t consistent with the current census. When pushed on these criticisms, he responded by saying it’s “fake news”. Sounds like someone else with an anti-immigration agenda 🤔. You also posted another article on free money, which slipped in a line at the end for the real reason for hyper-inflation: wealth disparity. I’m not even gonna touch the covid stuff, I think the other dude already squashed that. I know the thread got hijacked and politics took over, but calling this stuff out before it festers is important, placing the blame on migrants and folks on welfare is really dangerous. They’re not the problem and it creates resentment towards these people for something they’re not responsible for. American aristocracy is the problem. I don’t think this guy is a bad dude, I just think he’s pointing the finger at the wrong people.

If the “issue” is that college educated people aren’t being forced to work retail or fast food jobs that won’t cover their rent or student loans, then we’re just going to fundamentally disagree on a lot of things. But besides that, you can’t just decided to sit home and get free government money.

I think people are confusing economics with politics. I hate the fact now that everyone has to have the same view points that align with a certain political side even though you should be able to freely have points from either leaning at the same time.

This started out as worthy of a Mattel board thread then the tone shifted to something resembling a Lounge board thread, but I really don’t think either board would be proud of hosting it.
Sometimes, dead is better.
