 Kurt needed neck surgery so they planned on having Lesnar beat him on SmackDown then have him face Benoit at Mania but Kurt manage to convince Vince to move the win to Mania instead, but what if Kurt couldn't and we got Brock vs. Benoit at WM 19? |

Brock vs. Benoit would have been great to see. They had a great match on Smackdown in December of 2003 I believe it was for the WWE Title.
But as cool as Brock vs. Benoit would be at Wrestlemania 19, we then lose the magical moment of Wrestlemania XX with Benoit finally winning the World Title, in the main event of Wrestlemania over Triple H and Shawn Michaels.
So I rather take that memory than Benoit winning the WWE Title at the Royal Rumble from Kurt or some time after the Rumble only to lose it to Lesnar at Wrestlemania 19.

That to me wouldn't be that great.
Wrestlemania should always have the big title change hands in the final match of the night. Unless for obvious reasons it can't.
The build up was Brock winning the WWE Title back, so he'd have to win it at Wrestlemania. Angle did amazing for having a broken freakin' neck, but what else is new, the man won the USA Gold Olympic Medal with one too!

I made a thread about this a few years ago. While they would have had a great match, it would have been lacking the heat of Angle/Brock and simply been a babyface vs babyface match with Brock going over. Benoit likely goes back to the midcard until the following year where he moves to Raw and everything goes on as normal. Austin/Rock also likely main event in this case.

Benoit/Brock wouldve tore the house down but in the end I'm glad we got Angle/Brock. The story writes itself with both guys history with wrestling.

I’m as big of a Benoit fan as they come, but had he faced Brock at WM19 it would have been lacking a lot of drama as we know Brock would go over clean. Their Smackdown match later in the year was amazing not just for the in-ring work, but they told a story where fans legit thought Benoit was going over. The drama at the end of that match was crazy, which would have been lacking had they faced off at WM19. I’m glad things played out as they did as while it made sense Brock would go over that night, there was the slight feeling they may swerve us and Kurt may somehow walk out still champ (even with Kurt’s bad neck). |
