Howdy folks, I have not done one of these in a long time, but this idea popped into my head and I thought it would be fun to read peoples thoughts on it.
So we all know that at the 1993 Royal Rumble, Yokozuna would win the match, throwing out Randy Savage after he tired to pin him for some strange reason after nailing him with an elbow drop. I hated this as a kid as I thought there was no way Savage would do this.... although to be fair, he has a spotty record in the Rumble, not showing up in 1991, eliminating himself in 92 so him doing this in 1993 I guess was not completely out of character.
Anway, Yokozuna wins the Rumble, goes onto WrestleMania IX, defeats Bret Hart for the title, only to lose it to Hulk Hogan minutes later, what if Randy Savage though nails the elbow drop, gets up, as does Yokozuna who is now stunned and Savage knees him in the back, sending him over the top rope? Randy Savage wins the Royal Rumble and now is heading to WrestleMania to face Bret Hart!
The ripple effect here could be massive or nothing ultimately could have changed. Savage could win the Rumble, beat Bret Hart and they still do the thing where Hulk Hogan ends up with the title, perhaps Savage could say he has never gotten over WrestleMania V, calls out Hulk and then Hulk wins? Hogan can then still drop the title to Yokozuna at the first King of the Ring and we get the summer of Luger as normal.
However, what if Bret Hart beats Randy Savage and retains the title at WrestleMania XI? It would be a huge stamp of approval for Bret and it could also have been a thing that turned Randy Savage heel. You also have to say that had this gone dowm, it would have effected, Yokozuna, Hulk Hogan and Lex Luger as well! Not to mention Bret Hart and Randy Savage as well.
I would love to read your thoughts on how you think 1993 would have played out had Randy Savage won the 1993 Royal Rumble!

We wouldve got an instant Mania classic with Mach/Bret.Wouldve been interesting if they turned Mach heel in the build or just have a match of respect.Either way us fans would be the winners here.
As for Yoko I see him facing Hogan here, In the build have em Bonzai drop Beefcake a few times which in turns brings Hogan back.
As far as Money Inc goes, Have em face the team they were feuding with since late 92 and that is the Nasty Boys(which was the plan at one point until Vince decided on putting Hogan/Beefcake as a team)

Savage vs. Bret for the WWF Title would have been great to see. I know they had a WWF Title match a year later in Japan when they toured over seas after Wrestlemania X. I read about it in an old PWI magazine and it sounded like it was a helluva match to have seen live!

If this thread weren't in the Classic section I would've thought it was a troll post.

Yoko had one of my favorite monster heel runs, so I’m glad he won it. Savage vs Bret would have ruled but it wouldn’t have really done much in the long run.

I love the Macho Man, I say this because I feel guilty even saying what I’m about to say.
Macho was a glorified mascot by 1993. He was never going to be profiled in a major way again until he went to WCW and reinvigorated himself. He was kinda just there by ‘93, Macho lacked the presence he had before and would have again in WCW.
I have to end this by saying I love Macho Man haha. I don’t even want to be negative on him, but it is what it is.

I remember hearing I think on the Savage DVD from Lanny Poffo that Vince wanted Savage to not wrestle anymore because of his age and that he represented an era of old..... yet at the same time, Bob Backlund is getting ready to wrestle Bret Hart for the WWF Title at Survivor Series.
So that to me seems odd. If anyone belonged wrestling in the New Generation it was Savage over Backlund.

Difficult one to rewrite. If Savage wins, I would give the Gonzalez spot to Yoko. Have Y come in and attack a few midcarders and the Undertaker. Destroy the Taker in a similar way that GG did (and if wekre talking fantasy, then don’t bother signing Gonzalez in the first place). With Yoko not officially in the match, he doesn’t have to be eliminated, thus preserving him. At his size, if he’d been thrown over the top it would have damaged him at that point IMO, plus a countout/dq loss at WM to the Taker would be better than the Hogan debacle.
If Savage wins the Rumble, I would set his match v Bret up similar to the Piper match at WM8. Both could tease a turn over the weeks and throw in a tag match with the Bret and Randy v say the Beverly Brothers along the way, with the usual miscommunication to add intrigue to the match. Ultimately, Bret gets the victory and the endorsement of the old guard.
Further on in the year, Yoko beats Taker in a casket match at Summerslam (similar to the match at RR94) and Bret could get the victory over a non turned narcissist Lex Luger. Yoko gets the belt at Survivor Series, having a signed a non rematch clause. Come the Rumble, Bret has to fight off henchmen on his way to winning the match and getting a shot at the belt at WMX, where he reclaims.
Not original, but workable?

Vince didn’t want Savage to wrestle and it’s laced in hypocrisy, you’re 100% right. I do not take issue with Macho wrestling at all, I love Macho Man. The way he was presented at that time though was very much as a Legend of the past. Had Randy won the Rumble I think it would have felt like when Hogan won the belt at WM9, returning to the past instead of moving forward. Had they presented Savage as just one of the regulars, I don’t think anybody would have thought anything of it. WCW did that and he proved he had a bunch left in the tank, I agree, he should have been in there. But as he was presented at that time, it would have been anticlimactic. The age thing is a total joke and worthy of its own discussion. Everybody rags on Warrior & Savage being “old”, Savage was barely any older than Bret was, and he was the face of the new generation and the REAL kicker is Ultimate Warrior was actually YOUNGER or the exact same age as guys like Bret, Hall & Nash. I never understood the age criticism because, IMO it’s the alternative way of saying Vince wanted to move away from the steroid guys, age was just the cover up word. Backlund was old, what he wasn’t was a steroid guy. Think about it.

Bret was still working his way up from a tag team guy to IC to world title guy, where as hogan, savage, warrior were "stars" of the past.

I agree with you, It was Vinces portrayal of guys like Hogan & Savage with walkers & calling them 80’s wrestlers that put the age narrative to it. Age wise though, they were barely any older than the New Generation guys. What Vince wanted to say, I feel, Is “steroid guys”, not “old guys”. He brought back Piper, Bulldogg, Warrior & Backlund during the supposed “new generational. They just weren’t on roids anymore or roid free in Piper/ Backlunds case)
