Was just wondering what you guys thought were some big time/long lasting feuds that absolutely should have had finality/a part of the story of the feud take place on the grandest stage of them all. Just to clarify I’m counting only one on one feuds or singular team vs. team feuds. Not triple threats, fatal four ways, etc…
I’m sure there’ll be a bunch of folks to fill in some of the earlier year blanks on my end (I came into WWF during Attitude Era) but I was watching Royal Rumble 06 and watching Edge/Cena made me think of this thread. How during their 4-5 year feud they somehow didnt match up at Mania for a World Title seems hard to believe.
Another one that seems far fetched is Cena/Punk. One of the hottest feuds during the early 2010s that never got a proper payoff in my opinion. I would have much rather seen Cena/Punk Main Event Mania 29 instead of Rock/Cena II.
Rock/Triple H and Austin/Triple H also never had one on ones at Mania. Crazy imo during the late 90’s early 2000’s where they didnt have so many main eventers.
What have you guys got?

Flair vs Hogan Michaels vs Jannetty Savage vs Roberts
Pretty much the proper way they should have booked Wrestlemania VIII

A lot of great matches listed so far, Rude vs Piper at WM6, Savage vs Jake at WM8, Marty vs Shawn at WM8 or 9, Demolition vs LOD at WM7, all are great choices.
Piper vs Flair would have been interesting, they never had a televised match for their feud in 1991/92. Hogan vs Orndorff could have main evented a WrestleMania.

The problem with a Rude/Piper feud at Wrestlemania is that you can't let Rude lose because he's going to get another feud with Warrior and of course Piper won't lose by pinfall or submission. I think that's why Vince put Piper on commentator. Of course, Jesse was gone so they needed a replacement but you can't really have Piper on PPVs because he won't lose clean. He was on three PPVs since he returned and no loss was clean.
Also I think the tag team scene at WM VII should have been Demolition/LOD, Rockers/Power & Glory, Bushwhackers v. Orient Express or Haku/Barbarian. But that might require a lot of stretching out since the first two feuds were all the way back from late Summer time.

Love this discussion.
Flair Vs Hogan always seemed to me like the perfect route for WM8 and blows my mind that it didn't happen.
HBK Vs Jericho from 2008. Keep the WHC on Jericho and have HBK win the Rumble and face at WM25. A deserving match but I would not change the card for the sake of HBK Vs Taker being a GOAT level match.
Edge Vs Matt Hardy in a hardcore match at WM22.
Trish Vs Lita at WM21 or 22.
Ambrose Vs Rollins should've been the WM31 undercard match. Ambrose was red hot still and he was just thrown into the ladder match. Orton Vs Rollins was really good but could've been swapped out. Then you can tell the story of Rollins pinning both Shield members in the same night.
Sasha Vs Bailey at WM37. Mania worthy for that event but I did love Sasha Vs Bianca so I don't think I would've opted to change it personally.
Punk Vs Cena at WM29. The Cena/Punk feud was a signature of this era. Could've made it a triple threat with the Rock, too, and had done a great blowoff to the sort of odd Rock/Punk feud from Rumble and EC 2012.
Shane McMahon Vs Kane at WM20. Their 2003 rivalry is one of my favorites of all time and Kane ruled in this era. His match with Taker is totally forgettable and you could've fed anyone to Undertaker in MSG.
I'm going to go out on a limb and say JBL Vs Guererro at WM21 would've been a great blowoff but Cena's moment at the event is a pillar moment for the company, so not sure if I would change anything about that, either.

I get why people are saying what they are saying because we feel we didn't see a closing end to these feuds and Wrestlemania would seem like a great chance to do that. But I feel a lot of these feuds were done for house show matches only. Piper vs. Rude had their ending in the steel cage matches they had in the fall of 1989. To prolong it four months or so to Wrestlemania is just crazy.
To me personally, the only one that would have worked a year later would have been Rick Martel vs. Tito Santana at Wrestlemania VI.
Martel went over Koko, and Barbarian went over Santana, so why not just turn the matches around?? Martel over Santana, and Barbarian over Koko.

I love the idea of Jericho/HBK in 09, Sasha/Bailey really at a few Manias (33,34,35) and Ambrose/Rollins at 31. If Jericho/HBK took place back in like ‘87-‘92 that match would absolutely have paid off at Mania and they would have waited for the long term end as opposed to a bunch of matches back to back to back months.

Also if Bret Hart hadn't left in 97 WrestleMania 14 should have been Austin versus Hart

I wish Flair signed an extension so we'd get him and Perfect at WM IX in the loser leaves WWF match.

Flair vs Hogan Michaels vs Jannetty Savage vs Roberts Pretty much the proper way they should have booked Wrestlemania VIII In the WWF magazine, this was the originally listed card for Mania 8. hogan v justice flair(c) v savage piper(c) v hitman money, inc.(c) v duggan/slaughter lod v natural disasters (alley fight) undertaker v snake model v tatanka bossman/bulldog/virgil v nasty boys/mountie

It also would have helped set up Warrior/Rude feud. Have Rude beat Piper, by cheating of course, this way Rude would have beat one of the top guys in the company, and he would have beat him in a cage match. This would have helped it look more believable that Rude could beat Warrior in the cage at Summer Slam. Plus, the Rude/Piper feud was a huge feud at the time and we never got a proper end match to the feud on TV.
