Awhile back, I heard a report that one of Paul Wight's main reasons for leaving the WWE were that Vince and creative no longer saw him as a main-event talent, but rather someone to put over new stars. Regardless of whether or not this is true, it can't be helped but notice his current position on AEW dark compared to his last WWE matches putting over stars like Randy Orton and Drew McIntyre.
It's a step down regardless of how you view the company of AEW, but in reality, what else is there to do with him? He's not a main eventer anymore and he's drastically slowed down in the ring in the past couple of years. His most recent match on AEW dark literally looked like those Steven Segal demonstrations where people throw themselves around him once being touched.
Is this the spot that he belongs in, or is there a better way to use Paul in 2021? I honestly don't know.

Commentary should be his ceiling. Maybe a trainer or agent. We don’t need Big Shoe matches in 2021.

He understands where he is at this point in his career. That's why he announces and gets in the ring on occasion.

His time is over, its time to bow out gracefully. I’m hoping he can accept that before he seriously injures himself or becomes a parody of his former self.
He’ll do great as a coach, mentor, commentator, guy’s been in the business for nearly 30 years. He’ll be extremely useful in that aspect of experience.

If he has a match like he had at the last PPV where he just punches the guy and beats him, then I am fine with that. He doesn't need to be in main events or have any real feuds that need him to wrestle more often than he needs to be doing.

I find it hard to put him in a meaningful program on AEW television. I feel like him as a nostalgia act who gets a pop at dark tapings is a good role but I don’t know what else he could do outside of that in a wrestling capacity.

Tag team with Cody. Since Rhodes can't challenge for the world title & has already had a run with the TNT. Makes sense given their history. Plus go Big Show potential crossover. And the disaster kick chokeslam combination could be their finisher.

You guys don't seem to realize he can still go and bump. Forget the fact he was booked terribly for most of his career. This is a fresh chapter. New room, new view. The Dark squishes are just attraction matches for the live house. They did the same thing with him on WWE TV & many house shows where he would thump scrubs like Primo & Epico.

I haven’t been interested in Big Show since like… 2006? 2007? Only air time I need from him is when the camera cuts to commentary.

Would have preferred it in the other company but feel like with the right guy it could work here too. Honestly he and Punk had great chemistry so I wouldn’t mind it being him. Their match after Wrestlemania 28 was really fun and criminally overlooked. If it’s to put over someone up and coming though, use him to build Hobbs up.

What to do with poor little Big Show. Too Elite for New Years Baby Town. Too much of a New Years Baby for Elite Town.

have someone mock him, claiming he was always a joke, he snaps, takes on omega and loses due to the elite being all over
then just have him on commentary and be done with it other than the odd choke slam

I mean, I've literally never enjoyed watching him wrestle so why would now be any different. I've been very pleasantly surprised at his commentary abilities, but he's been the definition of change the channel heat when he wrestles for as long as he's been active. Just not into the whole big immobile giant thing

Current Rumor out there is he and Tony Khan against the acclaimed at Full Gear which I’m pretty sure no one wants to see.

If Big Show (or AEW bookers) really thought he should still be a main event wrestler, he’d be doing that. He’s not that delusional, surely. It was kind of a dumb thing for him to say unless he was going to be main eventing in AEW, but I guess he just had to think of a reason on the spot instead of just saying “Vince didn’t think I was worth much money anymore, but Tony said I could name my price.”
