So before I get into this, let me just say this isn't about Paul Roma. To be honest, I am watching WCW Saturday Night shows from 1993 right now, and Paul Roma does really make a wicked Horsemen member. I know a lot of fans don't think that, but Paul had the look, he had the body, he had the skills. He was alright as a Horsemen.
Well... let's start at Slamboree 1993. Ric Flair, Arn Anderson, and the return of Ole Anderson say and the debut of Paul Roma, make the new Four Horsemen complete. Kind of. Ole Anderson was retired then. In 1990, he was managing the Four Horsemen stable of Flair, Arn, Windham and Sid. So you can kind of take Ole out right off the bat.
"The Blondes have taken control or 2/3's of the... what, Three Horsemen now." - Jesse Ventura
Okay, fair enough. The 'Four' Horsemen weren't really a thing in 1993. It was always Flair, Arn and Roma from May - September.
Barry Windham didn't rejoin the Horsemen. Again, it makes sense. He was the NWA Champion, and was no longer a background player. Honestly, they should have had Barry be a leader of a group with The Hollywood Blondes and Bobby Eaton as a four man stable to feud with the Horsemen.
But something else happened at Slamboree 1993.... the return of Sid Vicious.
Sid was in the Horsemen in 1990 - 1991, so why didn't they just put Sid back into the Four Horsemen that night?? He would have made the perfect fourth member again with Roma, Arn and Flair.
It just seems weird that in 1993, Flair, Arn, Barry and Sid are all there and that Horsemen group didn't get reformed again.
So with all that being said... Flair, Arn and Roma.... who should have been the fourth man to make that team??

Sting! Then they can turn on em again in the end All seriousness, I'm glad it wasn't Sid as I enjoyed the brief run he had with Vader. I know they wanted Tully originally in there but settled on Roma but its a shame they couldnt reach a deal after the PPV as him as the the 4th man wouldve made the most sense. Another ideal idea that I would've loved is have em reform at Slamboree as heels with it being Flair,Arn, Austin and Pillman. With Pillman joining in 95, they could mention his history dating back to this time.

Yeah, Flair, Arn and the Hollywood Blondes could have worked for a while. Flair as the champion, Arn as the enforcer, and the Blondes as the tag team champions. All could wrestle and talk. If not them, what about Arn, Flair and Pretty Wonderful? They already had Arn, Flair and Roma, why not add Orndorff.

I saw a six man tag with Arn, Flair, Roma versus Austin, Pillman, Windham. What talent in that match-five sure fire Hall of Famers even back then.
Even with a fourth guy it really doesn't address how out of place Roma was. I think WCW should have tried as hard as they could to get Tully, even if he didn't want to do in ring work. At least they still have Arn and Flair for a tag match or both guys for singles bouts on PPV. Then just have Tully, Ole, Arn, Flair and call it Four.
If not, it would take a lot of figuring to get a fourth and even third (as I think Ole was fired around this time). Austin and Pillman would make amazing members but then you can't have Arn and Flair as faces.

A Flair, Arn, Roma and Orndorff vs. Windham, Pillman, Austin and Eaton feud would have been such a delight in 1993 for WCW.
Good pick with Orndorff being the fourth man!

Windham was already on the next level so he wasnt going to fit nor I imagine would he want to go back. Sid really didnt fit in the Horsemen in 90 either. He was also already becoming a "main event" guy coming off a feud in WWF with Hogan.
There really wasnt anyone on WCW roster that could have filled those last two roles...MAYBE Bagwell but even then he was green as babyshit. We also have to remember the plan was for Tully to come back so him not coming in threw a wrench into the plans where they had to make adjustments on the fly.
Looking at the 93 roster if you kept Roma in as a tag team with Arn & let Flair be the main guy...The only thing I could see possibly working is turning Dustin Rhodes heel and plugging him into that Windham role. It could even be used later on a year or so down the road when Rhodes turns face after Flair says he's not a main event guy and doesnt fit the role because he couldnt lace Windhams boots etc etc.
Ultimately the Horsemen were lost after the departure in 88 and never regained footing until adding Pillman & Benoit
