These vignettes were hot back in 2007. For 2 months they were hinting at Jericho's return, with more being speculated and revealed each week. Some correctly "figured" it out, most just guessed.
But to me it never made sense.
Things like:
- Save_Us.222 - Save_Us.X22 - Saviour_Self - Seemingly random dates, nouns, phrases...
Flickered on screen, but it never quite confirmed anything. Until the final week before his return we saw Break_The_Walls_Down.
Eventually we also got Save_Us.X29, which somehow was supposed to mean Save_Us.Y2J because apparently X+1=Y and 9+1=J. What did that even mean? There seems to be no correlation.
Anyone here "break" the code? I would love there to be a full analysis on the things that flashed on screen in the "code" but I haven't found anything.
Personally, I feel his return was damn cool, but nowhere near as memorable as his 1999 debut.

It was really exciting watching it for the weeks they built it up, I thought Jericho would go straight into a WWE Title reign when he came back (well, once it was confirmed it was him), but he kinda floundered in the mid card up until his feud with HBK. After that, it was pure gold. The new character was fantastic, and very much needed as it freshened him up from just doing the same routine as he had done since he returned.
While not as memorable a return as his debut was, I still really enjoyed it. But as I said, it wasn't till he changed his character and his work with Shawn that I really got right behind him again.

It was pretty much a complete copy of his debut into the WWF in 1999, so I think everyone who was watching wrestling then knew it was Jericho coming back in 2007.
I just remember how weird at the time it was to see with Jericho with short hair like that. It seemed unnatural because he was trying to be the Y2J character and the look he had at that time did not mesh with that character.
Now the summer of 2008 heel Jericho and that look meshed well together!

X+1=Y The next letter after X is Y. 9+1=J I is the 9th letter of the alphabet so you add 1 to get to the tenth letter.

Everyone knew it was Jericho, I remember when he did return that my first thought was “the code didnt make sense”, but I dont think anyone cared to try to analyze it further rather than just appreciate it for what it was.

Oh I remember on here people were scrutinising every little thing. The wall of text, the random phrases that popped up on screen. People were trying to make sense of it all. There were some who guessed it was Jericho after a couple of weeks, but largely no one "got it" right away.

I mean I dont want to sound like “that guy” but to me it was obvious from the first week out. We knew Jericho was returning (they even chanted it 2 months early at No Mercy) and as someone in this thread already stated it was basically a rehash of his first debut in 1999 just with a fresh coat of paint. I’m sorry but if anyone spent tons of time trying to “decrypt the code” that was a waste of time you’re not getting back.

I saw Jericho in Philadelphia a week or 2 before he returned. He was at a Barnes and Noble on the same night Raw was in town, signing his first book. I asked him if he wanted to go to the show. He said, "yeah, I'll buy the popcorn." You can imagine how disappointed I was when he didn't return that night.

Well not everyone got it and I distinctly remember the majority didn't know until a few weeks in. Hindsight is a powerful thing. You and I have different memories of the whole thing and I remember what I remember.

Every wrestling news site was reporting Jericho’s return by summer of ‘07. Go back and listen to Vince’s opening promo at No Mercy that year, the whole crowd was chanting Y2J, they knew he was coming. Vignettes started popping up that very strongly resembled Jerichos first debut, cryptic just like his first debut promos and just like his return promos would be in 2012. If you didnt see it coming, hey good for you, for me it was blatantly obvious.

I'm going to be harsh but Jericho's second run sucked and he didn't have the same magic from 99/05.
I wasn't a fan either of the short hair and once he switched to trunks and started wearing suits, he just didn't feel like Jericho anymore.

Didn’t wwe magazine accidentally spoil his 2007 return?
