So I’m listening to the newest podcast episode of Bruce’s show with Conrad, and they’re talking about Shotgun Saturday Night. According to the Observer, the show sought to air itself on “a syndicated network.” So what does that mean? When I think of “a syndicated network,” I think of the hundreds of local networks throughout America, like local affiliates, with even my local city of Louisville having four or five. So to me, to reach homes throughout America, I don’t see how this show could have been on “a syndicated network,” it would had to have been on “many syndicated networks.” Am I interpreting this incorrectly? Surely I am missing something? Perhaps there is “a syndicated network” that is available nationally? Is this what like UPN, CW, MyNetworkTV are? Non-cable, non-major networks that are available nationally? Syndication in general is confusing, I think. Because like, some of the day my local FOX affiliate will show local news, sometimes other shows, but then sometimes will show something like Smackdown, which the whole country is watching at once. Anyone have any knowledge as to how this works? Thank you for any info!

All I can think is it would air different times throughout the country? I know back in the day Jaxxed and Metal and all those would air on Saturday nights like at 11pm

Probably just bad wording. Syndication is the practice of licensing broadcast television to multiple outlets, rather than the more familiar (to wrestling) practice of a contracted network broadcast. In my area, it was on the regional Fox affiliate. It was broadcast on local, non-affiliate channels in the NY market. Basically, WWE was using their increasing profile and brand name equity to pitch this program to whatever network would agree to carry in the various markets they were pursuing.

I miss those job shows. I know there’s still Main Event and stuff like that, but wish there were still some on TV. My favorite of all time was Velocity, but I guess that was more on Heat level, a step above Jakked and Metal.

Shotgun Saturday Night when it aired live for those first five episodes I wanna say, they aired at 2 am Sunday morning/Saturday night (however you wanna look at it) on channel 50 from Detroit, Michigan, which for me was UPN/CW type of TV network.
When it went to being a taped show, it started to air at like 11 pm on a Friday night, or even 12 noon on a Saturday afternoon.
