After decades of work, billions of dollars, and delay after delay after delay, The James Webb Telescope FINALLY launched today making this the most important thing to ever happen on December 25. I’m not a history buff so I may be wrong in that. Anyways, this is the most advanced space telescope ever assembled and is a (so far) MASSIVE WIN for humanity in our efforts to explore space.
It will take about month for the telescope to travel approximately 1 million miles to it’s new home in a gravitationally stable location called a Lagrange point between the earth and sun. It will be months after that until it’s fully operational, and there are still MANY THINGS that can go wrong and end the entire mission. Fingers crossed.
If you’re unfamiliar with the telescope, it’s capabilities, or it’s mission, here’s one of many videos you can amaze yourself with.

I read about this a little while ago. Pretty cool what they can do. I just hope it opens without messing up.

"Mr. Webb......TRANSFORM." The telescope had 178 release mechanisms executed perfectly. Fifty deployments completed. It's still got 2 weeks of traveling but things are looking great so far.

It wasn't completely focused yet, but here was a side by side of photos taken by Hubble and James Webb.

First fully functional photo was released yesterday. 7/11/2022 was a HUGE day for our planet. I wish our military budget was our science budget. Maybe there's a place somewhere in that photo where it is............

That is so cool! What I would give for this to photograph a black hole. At some point I'm sure they will. The potential here is amazing.

Don't believe everything you see. Yeah. Space is just darkness with a bunch of white stars........ Here. Perhaps this is more your speed.
