It should've been Angle vs. Austin and Hall/Nash vs. Kane/Show.

It should've been Angle vs. Austin and Hall/Nash vs. Kane/Show. I wouldn’t mind this but I’d say do Kane/Show vs Hall/Nash and add Austin & Angle to the main event with HHH vs Jericho making it a fatal 4 way.

I wish they would have kept Taker face just a bit longer and then done Brothers of Destruction vs Outsiders at Mania.
Honestly that whole card is kinda funky looking back at it. Jericho as champion feels so out of place when you have Rock, Austin, Hogan, and a returning Triple H, not to mention Angle coming off a monster year.
I really think they would have kept Austin heel if it wasnt for them knowing Hogan/nWo would be returning in a few months after Survivor Series. I absolutely believe they turned Austin back face simply because they were trying to head towards Austin/Hogan.
Austin vs Triple H - Undisputed Title Rock vs Hogan Taker/Kane vs Nash/Hall - Tag Titles Flair vs McMahon (instead of Rumble) Angle vs Perfect Edge vs Jericho RVD vs Booker T - IC Title Big Show vs DDP - European Title Trish vs Lita vs Jazz - Womens Title
Theres your Mania 18 card.

They turned Austin face because his heel run tanked creatively and in drawing power. They were right too...it was an absolute disaster for their business man and never made one lick of sense. Crowd never really turned on him...hell the 2 man Power Trip were over like f*ck. UT demanded to go heel the moment he heard the nWo was coming. Wanted no part of the angle or involvement with them whatsoever. thats where his hasty heel turn after SSeries came from. Vince wanted Austin, UT, & a returning HHH/Rock standing up for the WWF against the nWo. HHH vetoed any involvement with the storyline & his good buddies from the sidelines....tricky tricky time for Vince.

They all seemed to have good relationships with those guys, seems like it would have made sense for them to feud with them, otherwise the NWO in the WWF just wasn't going to work. I also heard that this was one of the reasons that the Invasion angle didn't work, none of the main WWF guys wanted to put over the WCW guys. Which I understand to a point, I can see them not wanting to put over Helms, Noble, Bagwell, Stasiak, etc. But, for an angle to work, the bad guys (in this case the WCW guys) need to get heat, that's not going to happen if they are losing every night on TV. Also, you're right, they never should have turned Austin. They probably would have been a lot better off doing the Raw/Smackdown split keeping Austin and Rock away from each other for a time, have Austin the face of Raw (WWF champion) and Rock the face of Smackdown (World Heavyweight Champion). Then eventually lead to a unification of the titles between the two, see where you are at to see who wins.

Austin & Rock were the only top guys willing to work with nWo...frustrating for Vince. Also Austin only done it very begrudgingly...
Entire thing was snakebit from day 1 really

You would think that HHH would want to work with Hall and Nash, at least. And for a lot of the other guys who weren't on Austin's & Rock's level, you would think they would jump at the chance to work with Hogan, Hall & Nash, at least you know you would be featured in a main feud that Vince would want to push/promote. I can kind-of understand Taker not wanting to, he had the issue with Hogan back in 1991/92, and he also worked with Hall & Nash and didn't really care for the Kliq. I wonder if the others just heard about all of the politicking and back stage antics of Hogan, Hall and Nash, and decided it wasn't worth it?

From what you can piece together from books, shoots, JR, Pritchard etc? Austin: reluctant Rock: cautious but was away soon after WM18 to movies so was like ya OK Undertaker: no way. Petitoned to turn heel & wanted a WM programme with Flair when it came up a second time. HHH vetoed from his wheelchair. Had his eye on the title programme. Angle & Kane all felt the same as UT. I genuinely think Vince thought he was gonna stroll into WM18 with Austin vs Hogan & Outsiders vs whoever but sure Nash was in bits coming in too. Snakebite.

Taker had issues trusting dating back to Survivor Series when he defeated Hogan and Hogan said Taker dropped him on his neck. I know he got along with Nash, they would drink at clubs/bars, not sure how he felt about Hall
HHH I heard declined because he , I'm trying to put it correctly, didn't wanna look like he was just working with his buddies. He wanted something to himself

All makes sense.....but its something HHH would drop quickly enough for his near 2 year long feud with HBK.
