The Ultimate Edition heads are spot on. Idk why people say they arent. They really are. It's the hair that ruins them, if you mod the hair they look great. An alternative would be for them to just mold the strands above the the eyebrows. Jakks did this and it looked fine. Mattel’s loose hair look more like dreadlocks. They could also just do the part in the middle and have his hair to the sides like this sculpt. Granted, I believe the first DM Bret had the best likeness. It’s just the bad hair sculpt. The newest Bret scan Mattel also made looks good besides the wide forehead and hair that’s way too long. I don’t know if we’ll ever get the best of both worlds (decent face sculpt and hair), but a collector can wish. Jakks CS1 is still the best Bret Hart likeness we've gotten in figure form IMO. Still holds up. Captain McKay what’s up dude! I remember you from my animating days. Anyways, yeah the Jakks scan was always great and love how they molded the hair strands. I personally feel like Jakks had a lot of great headscans which to this day are better than some of Mattel’s. R3 Kane comes to mind for ‘01 Kane. I love Mattel’s work too, but there was something about the way Jakks painted headsculpts/hair that stood out to me.

That’s a great scan but Mattel would ever do that type of detailed shading/shadowing.

Thing is larger and not done is mass quantities. Mattel not any other retail figure can get to the quality. It’s not realistic

Mattel could make that head, but would you be willing to pay £200/£300 per figure?
These are mass produced cheap toys.

Imo the best Hitman sculpt is the Jakks DA open mouth head. Hasbro is def better than Mattel’s attempts so far.

Of course a hand-painted and hand-sculpted product is gonna be more perfect than a mass-produced toy. Could Mattel's Brets be better? Certainly. But nothing Mattel or any corporation could do is gonna match the level of detail of an enthusiast.

Looks fantastic but we need a 80s version of Bret Hart. This is a late version and he looks 50+.

I think people need to relax with the whole mass produced thing. I think what OP and what some of us want is a Bret sculpt that looks better, whether it’s a combination of the hair sculpt, facial expression and overall paint job. Mattel does have his likeness, but it has not been executed (no pun intended) properly. They fall short whether it’s the terrible hair, forehead, odd expressions or lack of good paint job. It’s obvious we’re not going to get a hyper realistic paint job like the ones listed, but they could still make a really good one at this scale. Look at some other figures like Neca for examples of paintjobs at 1:12 scale. I think the first Jakks Classics had a good paintjob, sculpt and 5 o’ clock shadowing. Actually, I think all of Jakks RA/DA scans were great even the RS screw job which looked older for a Bret.

Why not a more realistic example of a custom mattel could do?

It’s obvious we won’t ever get any Mattel figure with that level of detail as far as a paint job goes. As far as posting a realistic custom, I don’t think there are any other Bret sculpts at this scale. Even then if he were to post a custom people would complain that Mattel is a mass producing company and can’t put in as much detail as customizer.

The only problem I have with this head scan is that the hair line is to far up. His forehead isn't that big (based in the finished head scan). Other than that, its pretty spot on.
Maybe we'll get a Bret Hart head scan pack. To replace the other figures we want to swap the heads with lol

That looks nothing like Bret. The ultimate edition scans are far superior. Nice try though Cap

It's strange how, with all the modern/technological advancements, Mattel seem to be going backwards with Bret's likeness... the last two have been pretty poor. The best likeness (IMO) is the WM30 head from about 8 years ago. ...looks nothing like Captain America?
