Talking of LOD... did they ever wear the (Basic 2-PK) blue and black attire in WWE? I think it’s WCW and possibly Japan. There’s an episode of the wwe figure hunting programme where Hawkins asks TJ and TJ says deffo WCW

These figures are damn close to being perfect. Even the packaging in this era looked awesome! They even got the upper bodies spot on too. Animal had that sort of strong man gut going on and Hawk's body was a bit longer and slimmer. Did Mattel make these molds specifically for them or had they been used before?

We go through this every few months. If you're seeing someone in on a trading card or in a video game, they're most likely available for a figure. There are certainly exceptions, but appearances in other licensed properties are a huge indicator of who is/isn't available currently. I think your right now. We got word before that wasn’t the case and I think people grabbed onto that, me included. But in a separate post I’m sure you mentioned it seems to have changed and digging in deeper it does seem to be the case. There not really anyone I’m aware of who had a card, been in a game etc but not got a figure or at least in line to get one. I think the fact we don’t have visibility, like an official list (which obviously is business related info so I get why we don’t) of those is signed. Like the major pod confirmed irs is signed but he had 1 mattel way back when. Just because a figure hasn’t been announced or out for ages doesn’t mean they’re not signed. Yeah, there's no fool-proof way to know. But cross-referencing between the three can be a pretty good sign of who is/isn't signed. Especially because cards have basically zero sunk cost on design - if somebody is available it's pretty fast and cheap to slap their photo onto a template and include them in a set. Or at least much faster than designing and producing a figure. The only two who have been in other things that we haven't seen get a figure are Bischoff and Albert from what I recall.

Only in their return at Clash XXXII, where they were still wearing black and red tights. After that, he went back to the red face paint.

Animal is the Lesnar/Bruno body, Hawk is one of the regular ripped ones used early in the line. Animal being beastly and wide was definitely an appreciated change from his Legends figure.

Forever my faves I mean bar a couple of modern articulation tweaks how could this be improved? Apart from the gold summerslam appearance this is LOD to me and imo more iconic than the road warriors 87 era facepaint and attires. These figures are damn close to being perfect. Even the packaging in this era looked awesome! Only thing topping these would obviously be UltimateEdition versions

But I agree, these are two of my favourite figures in my collection. Two of the few I have loose aswell as MOC.

If they tried to re-do these today I’m not so sure they’d be as good tbf

Even the packaging in this era looked awesome! As much as I'd like the Summer Slam 1992 gold attire, Mattel wouldn't get it right, the gold would look dull/muted - look at the WM8 Macho Man and the 1995/96 Goldust figure. To get the SSL92 look right, they really need a shiny gold application. Talking of LOD... did they ever wear the (Basic 2-PK) blue and black attire in WWE? I don't think so, I believe these were based off of the return to WCW in 1996, though I believe Hawk still wore the red paint under the eye instead of blue:

And if they did do new sculpts, there's no guarantee they'd be as good - look at the recent Trish Stratus, Scott Hall, Roddy Piper, Ricky Steamboat, Bret Hart(s), to name a few.

If they ever did resign I’d only want Mid South, AWA, and 2000. I didn’t really care for the gold LOD.

Am I the only one who hated Hawk’s paint? It always looked uninspired and bland. Especially compared to Animal’s.

Animal was more of the artist compared to Hawk, I believe in their WWE Video, he mentioned that he had to even draw the paint on Hawk's face at times. Also, Hawk wore a more intricate design in WCW/NWA, but it looked too close to the Ultimate Warrior's face paint, so I imagine they wouldn't let him wear it in the WWF. I believe he only wore that style in the very early days of the WWF in 1990. Yeah mainly referring to the one he’s probably most famously recognized for with the triangle under the left eye. The paint in AWA NWA weren’t bad

Back then, the WWF didn't like superstars looking like other superstars, they wanted them to standout a bit. But you're right, Animal's designs are much better than Hawks.

I'm going to just bite the bullet and buy the Elite 30 set. Ellering is lonely.
