33 minutes into WM8 on Peacock The Undertaker grabs Jake one handed by the throat. Jake falls to his back and Taker maintains contact with him for 11 seconds with his shoulders on the mat. Ref Joey Marella ignores the pin. You can hear Gorilla dismiss the pin as well on commentary.
Do you suspect Gorilla, his son (the ref), and Jake were all in on an attempt to sabotage Taker before it was just too obvious to the Hoosier Dome?

A choke is an illegal move. You shouldn’t count if someone is down as a result of an illegal move. Marella made the right no-call.

A choke cuts off the wind at the throat. Sleeper holds put pressure on the carotid artery, cutting off blood flow to the brain and causing the opponent to pass out. They are totally different holds. That’s why the refs would check to make sure a sleeper wasn’t a choke by slipping their hand under the elbow of the person applying the hold. |

Million $ Dream and Sleeper hold are ok? those aren't choke holds, those are holds that apply pressure elsewhere when done correctly. I’m sitting here trying to come up with a rebuttal but this is a RARE well thought out logical response that I accept. Not used to this on the boards. |

I think he talks about it in his book. |

As Kurt Angle would tell you, a choke-hold is an illegal move and a pin/submission should not count based on one. That no good dirty Taz screwed Kurt at the 2000 Royal Rumble by paying off referee Jimmy Kordeas to end his undefeated streak.

Yes they aren’t considered choke holds. They need to be broken if the arm goes under the chin to the throat. Taker grabbed him by the throat so it needs to be broke on the 5 count same with a choke slam. |
