I’m sure this has been done previously, but I always enjoy trying to think of the best ‘action’ move to replicate a wrestler’s finisher.
So with the imminent reveal of the latest series in the retro line, I think it might be fun to share ideas….and hopefully it can give Bill and Steve some ideas too.
So I’ll start…..I was thinking about the new airplane spin action Mr T has, and thought it could be used for a US Express Mike Rotunda. And then if the arms were swapped out it could be used for Ken Patera and his swinging Full Nelson.

I think some people didn’t dig the John Cena move, but I thought it was creative. They used the clothesline way too much. Maybe slow down with that one a bit… If I remember right they only used the slam 3 times - Lesnar, Rock and Big E. I’d like to see more guys with the slam. They could do Big John Studd with the slam. Ridiculous that they only used the punch once for Reigns. Give me more of that and I’ll be happy. Maybe an Andre in blue with a punch? Maybe they could do a wind up uppercut punch like Ted Dibiase and Smash had in the hasbro line? You could give that move to anybody really. Referee Danny Davis with 3 count arm action. That’s what I want to see. Unpopular opinion- I DONT HATE the jumpers… when they are used for the right wrestler- they were a big part of the hasbro line. Maybe they could the Genius as a jumper if they got his rights?

Anvil must have the Big E mold. He would be a perfect match. Add Bret with a clothesline and you can recreate the Hart Attack. Can’t get better like this.
The problem with the clothesline is that they always use the same mold and even use that upperbody mold for other action features so it is extremely repetitive. Noone would habe complained if they used it that often with different molds (Hasbro had Macho, Anvil, Valentine, Boss Man, Crush, and surely more).
As for new moves:
Smash Punch/ Hogan Punch El Matador Punch Rick Rude punch IRS Stomp Bushwackers double punches
These could all be relieved, but I really like the new features Mattel came up with (Cena, Piper, Nakamura and HBK), so I would like to see them keep going that way.
Any new mold would be welcomed at this point.
That Mr. T action feature is a missed opportunity in my eyes. He should habe had fists instead of open hands. He is a boxer not a chopper.

And the Danny Davis seems like an easy one to do - could pretty much use Mean Gene parts (without the jacket & replace tie with bow tie).

Yeah I really like the ‘kicker’ action, and Shawn’s Superkick action is just perfect really (in concept, if not always in execution). Also I think it’s a shame that the arms that come from each body type have different pegs that go into the body - if they’d all be made with the same pegs then they could have used different arms with different bodies which would’ve given a lot more options.

Here is a simple one: give the guy a suplex arm (Perfect/Hogan/Steiner) but also give him bending legs (even with that awful kicking action if you want. BOOM! Instant stunner figure.
A modified Rude/Flair pose would work for Backlund’s cross face chicken wing.
Hogan with bending legs would work for the big boot/leg drop.
A modified Hulkster bearhug could work for Lawler doing a piledriver…with or without bending legs.
It would be cool to see arms at their sides with fists pointed upwards…you could do Ahmed or HHH hitting their finisher/hooking them in.

I really like the new clothesline mechanism with the added shoulder rotation so along with a clothesline it works great for stunner etc

One that I've been calling for on here for a little while is: - British Bulldog, circa '95 in shorts, jumper: tighten his right arm slightly to help support the opponent laying across his shoulder, press the tap and he jumps forward and hitting his opponent with the Running Power Slam (kinda). I think this would only really work for a face Bulldog since the jumpers tended to be faces, and I think an Allied Powers, Camp Cornette, Hart Foundation or jeans Davey Boy would work better with more of a power move or a punch, clothesline type stance.
Also: - Another one could be a Scott Hall with a gorilla press slam - though you'd likely need to create narrower, possibly longer arms for him to be able to hold the average guy up for the Razor/Outsider Edge.
- Lex Luger with either the Mr T or Cena model seems inevitable as they are perfect for the Torture Rack.
In general with actions though, I think the key is rotation - the larger range of moves they have then the more options there are. Like with the jumpers: they naturally are less popular but they definitely have a place in the line given the history of the action, so they should be included, but at one time then there were SO many being released in that appearance - two in series 2, two in series 3 (different actions though), one in series 4, one in series 5, two in series 6 - that's a lot in a short time. Then they went completely the opposite way and didn't do another jumper again. Instead they then overdid the kicker action - first one in series 4, another in series 6 (different style but still), one in series 7, one in 8, one in 10 and then Piper in 11. Clotheslines also: two in series 2, one in series 3, one in series 4 (modified into the chop), one in series 7, one in 8, three in series 9 (chops and clotheslines). The more actions they have now then the better balance I think they will strike with variety - the Mean Gene and Mr T actions are going to get some get uses - which will keep things feeling fresh between sets. I also think it would be worth Mattel investing in some more generic parts for the Reigns punch (the obvious HBK figure is waiting there) and the Brock version of the slam - filter those two semi-regularly in the line and then we've got some great options. People will still complain that a certain guy didn't get the action that they'd hoped for, but meh

I never liked the gimmick of having spring loaded moves in the Hasbros. It’s what turned me off to the line and made me retire from collecting wrestling figs until BCAs came out.

apart from some of the Jakks figures and the WCW ToyBiz/ECW OSFTM lines, most of the other wrestling figures to date are just poseable articulated figures, the Hasbros and Retros have a unique play aspect that not many other lines offer

Yeah, I always felt that the Hasbro Razor Ramon figures should have had the Hulk #1 mold. It was perfect to do the Razor's Edge with. They would have only needed to use the S5 Sid torso, or they could have made a new mold from that to add the vest.

They weren’t for me. I felt they limited the playability of a figure. Guys like Rick Rude were locked into that pose basically only allowing you to do the rude awakening, elbow drop, or headlock. Or the jumpers had the big hunchback.

One of my favourites is the Warrior #3 arm/foot movement idea, I'd love them to implement that on the Retro's in some way. That's a fun one to mess about with.
