I was having a conversation earlier about how other people prioritise their buys and how they go about what they buy first. So I'm starting doing the Hasbro line in the summer, that's my goal, but I plan on getting the cheaper/easier to get ones first and then working on the big hitters later on whereas the guy I was talking to said he buys the expensive ones first then does the easier ones.
So my question for you guys is: do you have a system in your purchases, are they thought out how you'll do them from hard to get/easy to find, or do you just go with the flow?

Hammers first! Seek out the rares, you can always fill in the commons at a later date….and a personal rule I live by; I don’t put out any “new” money, my collection is it’s own budget and it’s constantly evolving, gotta sell something to get something….

Maybe it's just because I like having a lot to start with, rather than only a few of the rarer ones that's got me doing it that way. I totally relate with the sell to buy, it's a tactic I use a lot. Although, it doesn't really help when you've owned things 3 or 4 times and justify selling to buy something new so I see it from that side too. |

I only collect AEW and Mattel and only one of each wrestler (that I want). So when a new wrestler pops up, I buy it. Simple as that.

There isn’t a lot that I’m collecting right now so I’ve kind of established some loose rules:
1) Collect all Mattel Retros
2) Collect Chella/ZST figures that I have the strongest memories of/emotional attachment to. Example: I am far more interested in Haku than Roadkill. Similarly, I have almost no memory of Powers of Pain but strong memories of Todd Pettengill.
3) Collect 7” versions of my favorite independent guys/NJPW guys. Basically guys that I got to see live, up close and personal and have a special memory of.
4) Collect guys from the Superstars and Wrestlefest arcade games.
These figures are very few are far between so I guess I don’t have to worry too much about planning.

Agreed on getting the rare stuff first. Especially with Hasbros, the rare stuff has increased in value exponentially while the commons are still fairly obtainable in my experience. Like, Green Card 123 Kid has increased a lot over the last 2 years, whereas series 1 and 2 are still pretty affordable. Waiting may make you pay more later. Now, the other side of that is that waiting for rare pieces to become available may cost you good deals on other pieces. So my other suggestion is to know what you want to pay for each piece, and if you see something in your range then jump on it. Be patient and don't overpay, but also don't be afraid to jump on a deal. |

Preorder whatever is a must have for me regardless of how rare it is. It could be a figure I know will be a pegwarmer or a figure I know is going to be super hard to find. Anything else I will wait to find locally or from Amazon. (Actual Amazon @ retail price) then anything else if I didn’t preorder it or can’t/don’t find it locally means I didn’t/don’t care to own. So they are easy passes for me.

I normally leave the normal ones that i can find later cheaper for last but the rare ones or exclusive ones i get them on pre-order before they go out in high prices and are hard to find.
