We live in an age of Social Media, so that's where the question comes from.
I have some self imposed rules when it comes to using things like Twitter and Facebook, just things that I don't feel like is necessary to post really. It's things that I don't feel is needed and should be private like family deaths, checking in places when on holiday etc. and don't get involved in Drama and have fun.
For you guys that use social media, and even if you have things on here you stick to, what are your do's and don'ts?

Definitely don't get involved in any political postings which devolve into online arguments and could lead up to worse. You never know how far someone will go these days to "expose" people online.
I barely go on Facebook anymore, basically scroll through Twitter and IG.

Learn from my cousin's mistake. She posted lots of pictures of her family on vacation in Spain, giving details on how long they'll be away. While they were gone, their house was robbed.

My uncle does this, every time he goes any holiday. I have to warn him when I'm there, do what you want but don't tag or mention I'm there. The day there house is robbed maybe he'll actually learn but I'd obviously hope that doesn't happen. I'm not taking any risk, no way.

Nothing set in stone. I don't say anything to people online that I wouldn't say to their face. I don't broadcast my personal life all over Facebook etc like most families seem to do. All my platforms are set to private so no outsiders can keep tabs on me.
Twitter has always been my sanctuary for crap posting and ranting, away from family, most friends and all co-workers.

I wouldn’t say I have rules, but I just don’t use much social media. I don’t have Twitter or Instagram accounts. I don’t post a lot on Facebook. Just don’t care to be engulfed in that world.

I don't have Facebook, and I mainly use Instagram, Twitter and YouTube. I don't have any set rules other than trying to stay out of political conversations and things of that nature. I'm thinking of dipping out on Twitter soon, it's become just as toxic as Facebook.

I don’t have Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, etc. Many years back I had a MySpace account. I was able to get in contact with lots of friends from the past & once I got their phone numbers, I didn’t see the point in keeping the account.
My type of social media are on forum sites. The Car, Sports, Wrestling forums that I’m on, do have sections to discuss things like religion, politics, sports, etc. I stay away from religion & politics.
I read about things & hear about people posting “XYZ” then getting in trouble, hurt, stalking or worse killed. People should be more careful with what they post.

not really...The only "real" social media I have is my facebook with family & a few friends from HS. I rarely post on it. My IG & Twitter are just for wrestling & have no connection to myself or my "life". Ive only ever posted a picture of myself on either once and that was recently when I met Vlad the Superfan

Don't post about not being home. This should be such common sense.
Don't post about fights with friends and family. It's gonna make everyone think you're pathetic when things work out.
If you get into it with someone, kids are off limits. Leave them out of it. Goes for people you know or strangers.
Don't post when good things happen. A scratch ticket win, a raise, nothing. Just invites people to ask for shit.

Be kind. That's pretty much my one rule. Be the light you want to see in the world and always remember that there is a living person on the other end. (usually)

A couple of rules if having a discussion with someone. -Don't be the one that resorts to insults. Thats when you know they no longer have anything further to add. -Know when to bow out. If the discussion is going nowhere then just leave it.
If I see someone hot on Instagram, I'll sometimes subtract a few years from the age they look. In the age of filters and photo editing apps, it can sometimes be difficult to tell.

One of my big rules is to not engage in any social media. I deleted Facebook around 7 years ago and I've never looked back. Sometimes it makes it challenging to view all of the upcoming figures and prototypes but, somehow I manage.
I also try to be pleasant and not sarcastic while on this board. I enjoy it here and I don't feel the need to be negative.

I try not to discuss politics. Seems everyone gets along until politics come up and then it's scorched Earth. Some of the people who say they want people to have an open mind or have an open dialog and are for free speech are the most egregious and triggered when having a dialog with someone with an opposing view. Some people think they're edgelords but are ironically offended that people are offended. 'I was just making a joke. Why are you mad? You're not allowed to be mad. Now I'm mad that you're mad.' In general I just try to be decent.

Don't tag people in Instagram posts because it automatically sends that person a DM
