I believe he was kept off to sell his fear of Taker's return.
I remember Gorilla on commentary bringing his name up during the build to the event with him saying something along the lines of'' Taker is returning and Yoko is nowhere to be seen''

Didn't the WWF around this time send him to "fat camp" to try and get his weight under control. I believe after WM10 and before WM11 the only event he was at was Survivor Series 1995.

I believe he went to fat camp after Survivor Series 94. He lost to Undertaker in that coffin match that Chuck Norris was involved with, and then came back at Wrestlemania XI to be with Owen Hart to win the Tag Titles.

Damn I remember in 96 but forgot all about they sent em there in 94 as well. Makes sense for his absence during that time period

Yeah, now that I remember it, he did work KOTR 94 in a tag match with Crush versus the Headshrinkers.

My father in law has a weight problem, granted not to the extent that Yokozuna has. However, he clearly has an addiction to food and he is always told by professionals to "just lose weight" "just go on a diet" "get more exercise" and so on.
If you have any other addiction like drugs or alcohol places and people bend over backwards to help, but people with a food addiction very rarely seem to get the same kind of care or help
Yokozuna passed away at far too young an age. He clearly needed more help tha knjust being sent to a "fat camp"

Yeah Yoko was sent away to lose weight. It was one of the finest places money could buy according to many folks with 1st rate therapy and resources available. but Rodney didnt want to be there.
Vince had to fly down to it to talk to him on specific time when he went out and brought back loads of fast food. The folks running said they didnt want him there due to his attitude and that it was bad for the other patients that were making progress.

There are medications available to ween people off of drugs and alcohol but there's nothing really like that for food. It's extremely difficult for changing eating habits for most people. I get the struggle. Yoko's case is different. He wanted to be the heaviest wrestler in history. You can't help someone that doesn't want to be helped.

Kind of wild that after such a lengthy reign through 1993-94, Yokozuna never even sniffed the title picture ever again really. He tagged with Crush for a bit after WrestleMania X and wasn't used really at all for much of the remainder of 1994 aside from the return casket match with Undertaker at Survivor Series. Then he went away again until WrestleMania XI which is where he transitioned into a full-time tag team role with Owen which was a fun pairing looking back.
I guess the constant weight issues put him out of favor within the company hierarchy. He was becoming a liability in the ring and slid down the totem pole as a result.

Does anyone else remember Scoops? It was one of the bigger wrestling rumor sites in the late 90s. I swear the guy that ran it claimed Yoko was coming back to join the Hart Foundation for most of 1997.

And this figure came out late in 1997. They also sold a single figure at KB and made a white pants repaint and those came out in early 1998 at the latest. Edit: Papa Shango was another rumored to be coming back and I just got a box of the 1997 WWF trivia cards that feature a lot of the guys from that time period AND a Papa Shango card inside. I can't imagine a company producing a card of a lower guy from 1993 like Shango unless someone in WWF gave them a tip. And same with Jakks and Yoko. Jakks was a bit better with their timeline than Hasbro and LJN. with getting stuff out. It's possible they had a Yoko mold in production but to me it seemed like someone tip them off Yoko may be coming back.

Scoops Wrestling was amazing then. Al Isaacs was the writer I wanna say for that website.
He was the one behind that big show at the ECW Arena in May of 1999 called "Break the Barrier" I wanna say it was called. Where stars from NWA, ECWA, CZW and other promotions all put on a joint card together. Shane Douglas appeared at it and cut a shoot promo on ECW how he wasn't gonna be at Hardcore Heaven the following night because he was owed money from Paul.

There were actually plans to bring him back in the late 90's before they decided on the Godfather.

The night he debuted as Kama Mustafa in the Nation, he was supposed to come back as Shango. It was literally a "night of" change of direction. That's why he's bald when he debuted. I think this was confirmed by Godfather himself on Table For 3 or something
