It looked as tho Sting was changing up the gimmick in 1996. He stopped bleaching the hair and was growing it out. This was well before the nWo so it doesn’t appear that it was in preparation for the crow gimmick. I don’t recall it ever being discussed but what was the initial plan for Sting had the nWo not have taken off? Was he gonna change up his look more drastically? Would he have turned heel to feud with Hogan? Is there anything documenting what plans they had for him?

If I remember correctly he was just trying to get more acting gigs so he stopped bleaching it. Nothing really to do with wrestling.

I think he was just trying to become more modern. Bleaching the hair was a 80s things, by mid 90's it would have started to look really cheesy and not fit in well

I think a heel turn was planned. From what we know Bischoff wanted Hogan to turn heel around that time and he refused. Hogan didn’t have too many heels left to go against and Sting is the biggest money match they have left to do. We also know that Sting was the backup plan for being the 3rd guy if Hogan backed out. That made zero sense considering both Luger and Savage were better choices since they were initially doing a WWF invasion angle. The only reason he would be considered over those two is because there were already plans in the works for him to turn.

From 83 Weeks Pod with Bischoff: “[Sting] wanted to do movies. I was the executive producer of Stings’ very first movie called The Real Reason Men Commit Crimes. I put the deal together and made it happen with Turner and funded it. Sting was taking acting lessons right around this time and working in that direction. Sting made up his mind, he didn’t want that blonde hair because you can’t get a movie, you can’t get a TV role with that look so he wanted more versatility.” Why did Sting Stop With That Hair?!!!! TURNING HEEL?!!!!!!!

Same as Hogan needing to shave his mustache for a role was also used in storyline leading him to embrace the dark side and teasing a heel turn.

Sting started letting his hair go natural in late 95 and full blown dark by March 96. When did they get wind of Scott Hall wanting to jump to WCW, late March or early April? This is the company that didn't think to have Hogan drop the leg on Sting at Bash at the Beach even though, in your words, the only money match they had left was Sting-Hogan. I highly doubt they would have planted the seeds in late 95 to try to turn him heel 6 months later.

Bischoff wanted Hogan to turn heel and he refused so the plan was to slowly turn Sting. Then Hall shows up and everything changes. Bischoff saw this as an opportunity to finally get Hogan to turn as he initially wanted but if he still refused Sting was the backup since he was turning already. When Hogan agreed to turn heel then they pivoted and gave Sting the Crow gimmick.

He looked a bit like the Ultimate Warrior tbh: I wonder if anyone ever thought of putting them together in a tag team... I think they would have fit perfectly...

I wonder if anyone ever thought of putting them together in a tag team... I think they would have fit perfectly... Especially if they had them wear neon cowboy hats. Think of the merchandise! MY GOD!!! Think of the possibilities... And the money they could have made... And, I gotta say, that green hat goes great with that Sting.
