By announcing the sale date they may as well have said "scalpers worldwide - don't forget about the next payday" So you’re suggesting they just randomly throw them up without notice? Announce it the day before so that the word doesent spread around as fast and that not as many have time to set up their scalping tents.

Scalpers hound sites and know about them regardless of when stuff is announced to go on sale. I don’t think announcing it now really matters

Hi Steve, I am assuming major pod has received these already. I am hearing they have received something from Mattel they can’t talking about. Is the influencer approach really needed with these? Mattel provided all 3 host with samples also? Is that really needed especially when asking for paying customers to buy in. Just again trying to encouraged you guys to respect the paying customer and change your procedures, and have faith in your own products. Thanks

Oh my god give me a break. No, my man I am allowed to raise a point. Let’s attempt to clear this up. Eliminating the influencer samples would not add those units back to the pool of available product on the site. Mattel Creations, like any retailer, puts in their demands (orders) for their product based on their business needs. The influencer samples are an additional amount ordered on top of that for marketing purposes. So if you nix that part of the marketing approach, you simply have that many units subtracted from the overall quota made. And actually, now anyone who would have gotten a sample is also potentially competing with you to buy the product on sale day. I’m hoping this sale is more in line with the Retro sales. The incredible hype of SDCC isn’t in effect which is what really drives the quick sellouts of those items when offered to non-attendees rather than the myth that only a small amount of units are produced.

Are the figures the influencers get the exact same as the regular release?

Are the figures the influencers get the exact same as the regular release? Yes. I could not disagree more with the approach Steve, I understand your viewpoint but simply don’t agree. I think the practice is extremely insensitive to the paying customer. Influencers should be following the same process as the rest of us and reviewing accordingly. From processing orders via online, to receiving the item and how long it took, reviewing the actual item, and how they found the process overall, what warrants Major Pod as an example to get 3 samples? As a PAYING customer I am simply asking Mattel to be more considerate of this and how this has left me feeling considering I work hard for my income and choose to buy your products and I mean that with all respect and sincerity Steve.

Honestly, I hope they start to work on more torso’s for this branch of the line. If they release the iron sheik or jake roberts with Batistas’ design, I’ll be officially done.

Ok, then I would also think it would be best practice to offer up the criteria to the figure community as to what warrants the “free sample status” in Mattel’s book to allow others to go that route should they desire to do so, that to me is logical and most importantly fair to your customers. Thanks for hearing out my viewpoint all the same Steve and for offering a response. Wishing you guys well in the future.

Actually taking Steve’s side on this one. Influencers are just that… influencers. They have eyes on them. They help advertise the product more than the average person. It makes sense they are privileged to certain perks. It’s not an indictment on the “non-influencer” aka normal customer. It’s honestly, for lack of a better phrase, the way the world works 🤷♂️ Thanks for the viewpoint dude much appreciated. I am sure there are perks and privileges to influencers, but that being said I have seen product go to “influencers” who have zero impact on developing interest in a product, simply taking a picture and thanking Mattel for a sample to me does not justify the privilege they are afforded. I have heard the viewpoint many times when this topic is discussed of “it’s just the way the world is in 2022”. I often find this very sad and disappointed as it shows the level of complacency the community can be accepting off. The paying customer has more power than any toy company is willing to openly admit. We literally have the power to decide if a product/brand succeeds or not. It’s our income that is keeping these businesses going. They work for us, not the other way around, the community and collectors get these products made and that is a fact. So why would I or others be encouraged when companies feel more than comfortable letting others have it for free and then expect me to payout. We as collectors also deserve to be treated respectfully and fairly. When the Coliseum Collection figures drop the community is going to have to fight it out to obtain it, meanwhile influencers would have this in hand and have no need to face the reality the community faces, and all free of charge. Again as collectors we should think more of ourselves and be less accepting of such inequality.

Not every influencer is a “famous” person like the guys from the Major Pod. It can be done. Stop complaining and put the time towards becoming one yourself.

I do not understand the hate towards influencers getting free stuff. It’s literally the cheapest way a company can get advertising. What’s it cost, maybe $10 to produce an extra figure and ship it to someone with a few thousand followers? And if someone has built enough of a following to get free stuff then they put in the work and should reap the rewards.

It’s open to debate guys and the practice and protocol Mattel has towards influencers I simply feel is insensitive to the paying customer, you both feel different and that’s cool, One reply handled themselves with more decorum than the other however.
