Am I the *only* one who doesn't really care if a figure's attire has real-life photo/video evidence to verify it?
Obviously, a LOT of people do care. I was upset that Legends 6 Ultimate Warrior – based on WM6 – came with a mashed-up belt: yellow strapped winged eagle. This is because, to me, that was THE iconic Ultimate Warrior look from his most significant career win (IMHO) and I have strong memories of it. If they were gonna do WM6 Warrior, I wanted it done right!
But I don't subscribe to the "Has he ever worn that particular combo?" type. If I don't know off the top of my head that something is wrong, then I don't care.
If, say, AEW did a flashback Sting that isn't verifiable by a deep Google Images search, I won't really care so long as it looks like something Sting would've plausibly worn at some point.
**For me, figures should be timeless representations of the characters. I only have space for one or two of each character, so a surfer Sting (for example) could be any plausible representation of him because he will be THE only one I get. It just needs to be Sting the character; it doesn’t have to be from any one event.
Am I alone? I added a poll. Feel free to participate, comment, or ignore haha.

There’s certain events that I want the specific attire such as GAB ‘90 Sting, WMIX Steiners, RR ‘00 Triple H. But others I just have to remember someone wore the attire at some point. But I don’t need to know if someone had a certain championship when they wore an attire the belt is packed with.

I'm with you, brother - I'm a "representations" guy too. I guess we all collect in different ways, but when I see people ordering their 29th Stone Cold figure and getting upset because the knee brace is on the left leg and not the right as he wore it on "Random PPV 1997", I just don't get it. I bought one Stone Cold to represent him in my collection (his UE, which seems pretty definitive in my opinion) and don't need 15 of the same guy just because he has the tiniest variations in his entrance vest. Austin pretty much looked identical throughout his entire prime run anyway.
I'll buy multiple versions of the same wrestler if there are very clear differences in gimmick or costume - Ultimate Warrior, Razor Ramon, Macho Man, Ric Flair, etc - but I'm not gonna get upset if Bret comes with white wrist tape when he actually wore pink wrist tape at Summerslam '92, for example.
But at the end of the day, it's each to their own and whatever makes folks happy with their own collections.

I wouldn't mind maybe seeing some fantasy attires. Like a green DX Kane would be really awesome. He never wore it on TV but it was rumored that he would come out in green and black at one point.

We're on the same page though. I saw a guy in Steve's Q&A thread one time and he was raging that the SummerSlam '92 Bulldog Elite has a 2mm solid white waistband instead of a red/white split. I mean...seriously? I was just grateful to have another shot at getting a classic Davey Boy in my collection lol.

Sometimes it bugs me - because they have the scans available and are just too lazy or "forget" to match them to the attires accordingly. But I am usually thankful that we got the attire at all (IYH:DX) and am grateful to have it in my hands in any capacity. So I care, but I almost always let it slide and buy anyways. Head swapping, finding knee pads, doing customs etc. is a pain but also part of what makes it sort of fun on the back end.

I think it depends on what attire they are using for reference photos. If Mattel is doing an attire that was worn one time at a wrestlemania or iconic moment then Yes, get it as close to 100% accurate as you can.
But if a wrestler who wears a similar attire often then it’s fine not to match up to a July 23 Raw in 2018 or whatever

Interesting question, I voted sometimes. I do think I like figures more when I can pinpoint the moment it's trying to represent, but in practice it doesn't affect my grade that much. The new Randy Savage superstars figure is a perfect example. Would I have preferred say WM5, WM7 or WM8 Macho? Probably, that would have been an A+ to me, but the one they're making is a nice looking figure that does an iconic character justice, it's still an A. As you say, timeless representation works just fine.

It bothers me more when they pick a real attire that has been worn on TV and that I’m fond of, and then they completely botch it so badly that it isn’t even worth picking up.
Take the upcoming Top Picks Seth Rollins Elite, for example. I’m a huge Rollins fan, and I LOVE the Royal Rumble 2021 attire that the figure is based on, but they messed up pretty much everything on it. The jacket being the wrong color, the missing logos on the tights, the inaccurate kickpads... I can cut a 20 minute HHH style promo about how inaccurate that thing is, and it ain’t even released yet. 😂

I’m kinda along the same lines as PJ where there are some iconic ones that would be glaring. For the most part, I don’t care. I tend to get it if it looks cool or was worn at a show I attended. But even on the show that I attended part, I can’t thinking of ever freaking out because it had the wrong color wrist tape or had the incorrect style of knee pad.

I voted sometimes. I think the big attraction attires, especially the one and dones, should be fairly accurate. But im not a huge stickler and it wont stop me from buying a figure if say a wrist band is off, or hair color is slightly lighter/darker. Or if the top of a flame on bam bam doesnt stop at the right part of his chest. I will add I think its fun to do the research and it also helps me and my old brain keep track of displaying my collection by date. 500+ figs is hard to do without a little deep google img searching.

If it’s before like 1995 not as much, but I do like figures to be as realistic as possible. I hate when Bill mashes things up that can’t be easily customized to fix, but if I can fix it myself I don’t mind

It depends on the situation for me. I think it's forgivable when it's something that's not too noticeable or easily fixable like let's say wrong hair color. I could go ahead and repaint the hair, not an issue. Now, when it's brought up multiple times and it takes a quick google search to see that attires are the wrong/have the wrong color on a pair of tights/or completely different boots. It tends to be annoying, especially when that figure is probably a one done deal. It's not too easy to pop a torso seamlessly, or repaint a pair of tights to a factory finish... I don't mind the mashups too much unless it's like an attire from one event, hairstyle from another and beard from another. If it's something like attire from "X" event, belt given, shirt given in addition etc, it's not a problem. I like extra accessories. Overall, I do think Mattel does a great job with their products, but when they do botch it's really mindboggling. It's usually simple mistakes that make you question yourself.

I get more bothered by choices like depicting Michael PS Hayes in his Highlander movie gear rather than one of the thousands of attires he wore as a Freebird. Or getting one Don Muraco and it’s the face version. Also Kurt Angle got one Attitude era elite in wrestling gear and it was his early/debut look.
Most of the time Mattel is close enough for me but it’s those oddball choices that irk me.

I don't have a photographic memory. As long as the figure matches my fuzzy mind's eye picture of the wrestler, rock on. Accuracy is a bonus, but I'm more than likely never to find out.

I voted "Sometimes." Like others have said, if it's based on a specific match, I'd like it to be as accurate as possible. But I also understand that there are limitations in recreating minute details on a 6" action figure.
My biggest problem is when we know the correct parts are available but Mattel chooses to use the wrong parts, like Bash at the Beach Luger's black boots when they should have been white. I don't understand how/why stuff like that happens occasionally.

I voted sometimes. It really comes down to how glaring the issue is, and if it impacts my ability to enjoy the figure. Some minor paint app details or even a lot of parts choices don't bother me that much.
The ongoing failure to correctly match colors when reference photos are available bothers me to no end. Like the 30th anniversary Razor being in lime green.
The thing that bugs me more is the obsession with big 4 PPV one-off attires when they haven't made a wrestler in their "standard" look. There are some really memorable one-off attires. But a lot are very forgettable, especially in this era when every wrestler from the main event to the pre-show seems to wear special attire for big events. If everybody does it, it doesn't feel special anymore. And I'd rather have a wrestler represented in the gear they wear week in and week out that sticks in my memory.
