I didn't care for Henry Blake. I thought the show started to go downhill when they added the laugh track. And I couldn't stand Dr. Sidney Freidman.

I thought the show was better with Potter/Winchester/BJ than Blake/Burns/Trapper. Maybe it was that the writing matured and characters could be both faces and heels (to use wrestling terms) at the same time- specifically Winchester and Hotlips. And TBH Radar wore thin on me so I wasn't sorry to see him leave and Klinger become something more than the guy who wore dresses.

IMO, the slapstick, irreverent tone carried over from Blake to Potter well enough. But there seems to be a point (late 70s/early 80s maybe) when the show got a bit more serious, sanctimonious and maybe took itself a little too seriously.

I like the movie Henry Blake better than the TV version. Its also weird that they just about died on the same day.

I'm a fan of the Potter/Winchester/BJ era. I enjoyed Blake and Burns as well, but after some time, especially with Burns, they were just on dimensional characters. I like how Potter, instead of just being another goofball civilian stuck there, like Blake, they had him be regular army, but also 'one of the gang.' He really became like a father figure to the other characters. Burns was the worst of the characters that suffered from the one dimension treatment though. I liked the character as a foil for Hawkeye and Trapper/BJ, but he never evolved. He was just Mr. by the book military. Winchester coming in was a great choice. He could be the foil, but he could also be the friend. He had no problem returning a prank, and he had humanity. That's my favorite part of him, instead of just having him be the rich snob, he had humanity, and would do the right thing if presented with a bad situation, and showed appreciation to those who did good to him.
