The broken-down concrete steps are chipped and crumbling away and feel as if at any moment they could give out and collapse but Johnny Mason walks up them anyway and into the brick building that holds his therapist’s office.
It is a multipurpose building that also has a pediatrician’s office and some kind of marketing and sales office as well, among other things that Johnny hasn’t paid attention to.
He’s wearing a pair of black Nike basketball shorts that he frequently wears, along with a T-shirt with Shaggy and Scooby Doo on it.
Pretty ironic. He doesn’t know if he’s the monster or the one chasing it.
You got the Spooky Space Kook.
Also known as TITUS!
The Black Knight that is like Mesh, the former Vanguard Knight
They both turned out to be someone hiding under a mask though.
Scrappy Doo is Karate Steve.
Napoleon is one of the villains that nobody remembers, on a filler episode.
And if you heard what DGX said on the last show, apparently Johnny is The Creeper.
All the Vanguard Champion could do is laugh.
He’d love a match with him, but until then he would prefer that if he has something to say, to say it to his face.
Trash talk backstage won’t get under his skin like most here with their fragile egos.
Johnny Mason knows he already lost to Shuggy, and that is something he owns.
They won fair and square.
They won fair and square.
But if we ever get to see Mason vs DGX there won’t be any distractions for DGX to take advantage of.
He revels in his sovereignty.
But he better make sure it’s not something that is forced away from him.
Pacing forward, across the squared white tiles that cover the hallway of the first floor, Johnny bolts into the lift before the sliding door seals shut.
He goes to press the button that signifies floor number three, but it is already lit up.
Across the elevator is a woman that seems like she is in her mid-twenties.
Blonde haired and beautiful, her brown eyes stare daggers into Johnny’s soul.
Yes. He does have one.
“How are you doing today?” She asks.
Her infectious smile would brighten up any dark space.
Except for the currently vacant one that’s taken up occupancy inside of Johnny’s head
“I’m alright.” Johnny says, surprised he’s hearing himself speak.
“Just alright? Why not great?” She says without breaking her radiant, yet genuine smile that seems like it could never leave her face.
“I have a therapy appointment.” He states bluntly.
Now it’s her eyes again, and the sincerity behind them.
“Well at least you’re trying to better yourself!
A lot of us should follow in your footsteps.”
A lot of us should follow in your footsteps.”
Johnny is taken aback for a moment at the fact that she seems to realize that he is trying to get better.
He’s always looked at as the villain in his mind.
No matter how small or insignificant it seems,
Trying is all he does, and for someone to acknowledge that means the world to him.
Nobody has ever done that before.
“Ye-Yeah I’m trying my best.” He stutters out as he looks into her eyes.
The conversation is interrupted by the opening of the sliding door as they both step out into the third floor, therefore letting a mother and her son in.
The son violently taps his mother in the side.
“That’s Johnny Mason! That’s Johnny Mason!”
The mother shews him off of her like an annoying pest.
Johnny looks back at the kid and waves with a fake smile that is quickly removed when the kid flips him off,
Before getting smacked upside the head by his embarrassed mom as the door closes on them.
Before getting smacked upside the head by his embarrassed mom as the door closes on them.
Must be an Alex Sean fan. The few and the proud.
“Well anyways, trying is all that matters.” The woman says, as they reach the door to the therapist. “My name is Ava. Hope to see you again.”
“Me too.” Johnny mutters out while he watches her walk away to the opposite end of the hall.
Opening the door, it’s the same drab setting that he doesn’t want to get used to.
But after looking around the room for a seat, he decides to sit in the black leather chair again.
He remembers how Ava said that trying is all that matters.
As hard as he is trying, he knows that’s not true.
Not true in the WFWF anyways.
Not true in the WFWF anyways.
Wins matter. And his loss against Shuggy couldn’t have come at a worse time.
It’s hard for him to think about anything other than his match against Mesh.
That’s not an excuse though.
In Johnny’s head he knows that he should have done better.
He doesn’t want to be a disappointment-
No, he can’t be a disappointment!
He will defeat Napoleon like he’s done before at the last stop before Stars and Stripes, Knuckles Up In Boston.
It appears as if Napoleon keeps getting better and better and Johnny knows that he can’t underestimate him and have another loss that is an upset.
This is the only thing he has and that’s been proven to him over and over again.
All he wants to do is win his match then get out so he can prepare to do it again in his next match.
Mesh had to come along and complicate things though.
She’s pushed it too far, and at Stars and Stripes it will be personal.
He catches himself staring at the blank white wall, as if there was something to see.
He quickly moves his head up to look at the black clock on the wall next to the picture of daisies, only to find out that it still wasn’t working.
He thought that was strange because he keeps hearing the never-ending tick that the clock would make every second.
It interrupts every sentence and every thought that is flying one hundred miles per hour through his head.
Almost like a countdown to another breakdown that will lead him to more antidepressants that won’t work.
The only other person in the waiting room with Johnny is an older man who looks like he is in his sixties or seventies.
A few moments ago, there had been some frustration and confusion about why his insurance card wouldn’t go through.
Turns out he was using the wrong card.
That didn’t stop the lady at the desk to ridicule him and treat him like he was somehow lesser than everybody else.
Johnny checked in about a half hour early and was astounded to see her name was actually Karen.
He guesses these are just the things you have to go through when you seek mental help.
That reminded Johnny that he has a paper to fill out so Gertrude can go over it in the session.
The paper asks a question, and you have to fill in how you feel.
Your options are,
Not at all, occasionally, sometimes, often, and all the time.
The first question is, I have felt tense, anxious, or nervous.
Sweating but cold, head hurting, and hands shaking, meanwhile all he can focus on at the moment is the old man’s chair squeaking every time he moves.
Johnny fills in the circle under often.
The second question is, I have felt I have someone to turn to for support when needed.
Johnny pictures the stupid face of Tyson Watts. Along with his humongous stomach and the smell of liquor that reeks out from his barbecue stained mouth.
Johnny fills in Not at all.
The third question is, I have made plans to end my life.
Johnny doesn’t know if he should be honest or if there will be repercussions for said honesty.
He looks through and fills out all of the other questions about not being able to sleep, despair, hopeless, you know the usual.
Then back to the question at hand.
Lastly, he remembers back to when he made an attempt, when he thought that the WFWF would never come back.
He makes the decision to fill in the circle for all the time.
Johnny stands up and walks right past the old man’s squeaking chair and over to Karen’s counter, handing her the papers. Before lurching back to his seat.
They call the old man back, turns out his name was Elvin, as suddenly Johnny seems to realize there is someone that he’s never seen before talking to Karen.
She’s got papers in her hands.
Are they the papers that he just filled out?
Johnny frantically rubbernecks it, to see who it is, but snaps his head back into place when Karen looks his way.
Are they the papers that he just filled out?
Johnny frantically rubbernecks it, to see who it is, but snaps his head back into place when Karen looks his way.
F*ck! What do I do?
I have to get out of here!
They’re going to take it away from me!
Clomp! Clomp! Clomp!
The astronomically colossal footsteps slam relentlessly against the floor, as Johnny springs up out of his chair, almost knocking it over.
I just got it back!
They can’t do this!
I can’t let this happen to me again!
Clomp! Clomp! Clomp!
Johnny runs faster than he ever has, in this four-foot dash, and Heisman’s his way through the door and out of the room as the door inside opens, and out steps Gertrude Brown.
She screeches “Johnny? Johnny are you out here?”
But by that time Johnny skipped the elevator and sprinted down the hallway that Ava took earlier, all the way to the end, and down the stairs.
Passing the only other room on this hallway. An empty one at that.
Can wrestling be the thing that is keeping Johnny alive, and the thing that is driving him crazy?
Are the sold out shows the reason he feels as if he’s sold his soul?
Will he be able to control himself when he’s faced up against the morally wrong Mesh?
Will Napoleon be able to beat Johnny Mason like everyone else seemingly can?
Find out next time, on WFWF!
