I'm on the anti Holly side on this. He clearly had a problem with the Tough Enough concept of these guys getting an easy chance at a spot on the roster. It'd be one thing if Cappotelli was being disrespectful, constantly acting full of himself. But as far as I remember, he didn't show any kind of disrespect, he just had the bad luck of being the one that was put in against Holly. And just looking at stories from throughout Holly's career shows the chip he has on shoulder.

I just find Bob Holly unnecessary and disgusting full stop.
The guy had/has a real chip on his shoulder his entire career.

I don't get how Holly lasted so long. He was a bully and had heat with many wrestlers.
Being a mid carder I don't get why Vince didn't just let him go.

Absolutely hated it. Bill DeMott was in an impossible situation as well trying to explain it. If I remember rightly his body language was all over the place when he was explaining to the trainees why someone took an absolute liberty on one of them.
Any idea if he took revenge on Brock after he dumped Holly on his neck?

It was a disgusting assault just like APA against Public Enemy. If someone did this on the streets the assailant, if caught would rightfully be going to jail. But since it's the wrestling "business" and Matt must pay his dues, it's ok. Most, if not all of the trainers were journeymen and jobbers or low card people at the time so they would defend Holly. He was a pure jobber, never deserved anymore but he had a "work ethic" that was favored and he was guy who kept the lockeroom in tow so he was popular with the Undertaker's and Bradshaw's. He had no entertainment value and he should have been let go rather than be repackaged and renamed, Bradshaw too.
Tough Enough was a show that Vince wanted to do because he can't just be content being the most famous russling promoter, he had to have his hand in stuff he shouldn't have had his hand in. And who really remembers Tough Enough for anything good, it's the bad and the silly we remember it for.
As for the Brock incident. I have no doubt Holly sandbagged him. I hate he got his neck broke but it's a happenstance receipt for all the crap he pulled on others. Brock is a damn monster, not just on TV but in real life. There's no way he can't get a proper hold on Holly unless he was purposely trying to sandbag.

Apart from the time he called Gangrel a fat bastard, I've never been entertained by anything Bob Holly did.
There is no defending what he did here at all, same with what he did to Rene Dupree. Guy seems like a typical bunghole bully, funny how he never tried to teach Brock a lesson!

But Ivory did say that guys like him and JBL were suddenly the nicest guys in the world when someone like Brock came around so I doubt he’d try anything.

I never believed that Brock intentionally dumped Holly on his head for sandbagging him, but there was absolutely nothing he was going to do to that guy to retaliate. Imagine shooting on Brock Lesnar? That would require someone being an extra kind of stupid. Holly was a legitimate tough guy. However, he definitely seemed to have a chip on his shoulder for all the years he spent on the undercard and his reputation for being a bully is well-documented. Hard to believe that he was with the WWF for 15 years! One random Bob Holly factoid that I will never forget is Jim Ross - on live commentary during a PPV - calling his Falcon Arrow finisher the "Hollycaust." Even for 1999 World Wrestling Federation standards that was shockingly bad.
