How the heck was 2002 20 years ago!!! Makes me feel really old
Anyway, 2002 was a stacked year for the WWE, it has one of the most interesting rosters in WWF/E history and speaking of that, it would also be the last time the WWF would be called that. Plus, we had the brand extension and separate PPVs for each show. There were some great PPV matches in 2002 and I thought we could have fun picking our four favorites.
Here are mine,
Vengeance: The Rock vs Kurt Angle vs The Undertaker: In my opinion, still the best triple threat match the WWE has ever produced. This is just an absolute banger from start to end and realistically, any one of these guys could have walked away with the win.
Survivor Series: The Elimination Chamber: Being the first can be tricky, but man did all six guys in this match nail it! This initial chamber was freaking brutal too as there was next to no padding on it. Even though he was wearing the worst ring gear of all time, seeing HBK win the big gold was awesome, it made such an impression on me that the one and only replica belt I have is the Big Gold with a Shawn Michaels nameplate on it.
SummerSlam: Shawn Michaels vs Triple H: It was so awesome to see Shawn Michaels back and it was like he never missed a step. These two have such great chemistry together and I much preferred this match over the one they had in December of 2002.
No Mercy: Undertaker vs Brock Lesnar: Beating Undertaker here made Brock look way stronger and more of a badass than ending the streak the better part of two decades later did! I love this match! It is an absolute blood bath and these two guys just beat the hell out of each other. I am one of the few people that actually loved The American Bad Ass and I was really pulling for him to win this one. However, there was no denying that Brock was a legit star and this match did wonders to really cement that.
I am pretty confident that no matter when I do this, those will be my four picks. Honorable mentions go to Hulk Hogan vs The Rock, The Rock vs Chris Jericho, Edge & Rey vs Angle & Benoit, Kurt Angle vs Edge and Rey Mysterio vs Kurt Angle. 2002 really was a stacked year for great matches!
