After noticing that one of the ALL OUT posters had more belts than wrestlers, I wanted to see just how many belts AEW currently has ownership of.
AEW currently has 11 championship belts (not counting interims) and ROH has 9, most of which are primarily defended on the program. That's a total of TWENTY champions. And that isn't counting additional belts brought in from other promotions.
With 131 active wrestlers between both rosters (and that's being generous), that averages out at about 1 belt per 6 in a half wrestlers.
Which makes me wonder, in general, what is the ideal ratio between wrestlers and belts?

I always thought a promotion should have these championships
World Heavyweight Championship TV Championship Internet Championship Light Heavyweight Championship Hardcore Championship Tag Team Championship
Then have a tournament of champions with the 7 title holders plus a wild card non-title holder

Well both numbers are way out of wack and to bloated of a roste.I think the ideal roster is 32-40 male wrestlers for a 2 or 3 hour show per week. With 2 or 3 titles only.Over the years I've started to lean towards only having a world & tag team titles and division.
If your going to have a credible women's roster depends on the size you want,if your only going to have one title then 8-12 women but if you want to add a women's secondary title then like 16.
So for me my ideal roster would be 40 men and 10 women with only three titles in the men's and women's world title and then the tag team titles.
Less titles and title changes make wrestlers and the belts a lot more credible, also adds and extra lary of a big match feel when their defened.

Both WWE and AEW have too many belts but you have to due to roster size. WWE was smart to get rid of NXT UK and those belts, but I imagine when they re-up with NXT Euro they'll add them right back. If you can separate NXT/ROH in your mind from WWE/AEW then that helps some.

I think somewhere around 15:1 is ideal for tag team divisions, and probably more like 20-30:1 for singles.

Mens Heavyweight champion Womens champion Tag champions TV champion(TNT, TBS) Mid card(All Atlantic)
I’d say that’s plenty

I dunno, but hopefully they add more. More belts mean more chances for Andrade, Rush, and Serena Deeb to win one.

The only one I don't see much use for is the All Atlantic personally. World,Mid,Tag and Trios seems ok to me,especially with all the stables AEW had at one time before the injuries, all this latest trouble, etc. Hopefully TK can find a tv deal for ROH soon,so those won't be there anymore. If I would change anything,I would make it obvious that one of the women's titles is a mid card title(maybe I'm just a little behind but I'm guessing they're pretty much equal right? Or am I totally misunderstanding that?)

I literally forgot the All Atlantic belt existed until they posted the PAC double champ graphic. The women's division is a mess, so it's not surprising that the title picture is cloudy. But I also don't feel like anyone has had a standout reign that solidified the prestige of the belt the way they have on the men's side with a very intentional progression of champions.

Yeah listing out WWE's titles like they're not represented on multiple brands is disingenuous.
I think a big issue with the titles is the ROH acquisition. ROH in AEW has been a mess. Way too many titles on way too little TV time looks really lame with everyone holding a belt and it gets even worse when other company's belts are also held and defended at times. With everyone being a champion, it loses a lot of its meaning. I think much of the issue comes from the ROH addition, though. It's had a really odd presentation since the beginning. When Tony Khan bought ROH it was a dead brand, it still is a dead brand, but it's treated as if it's some big deal.. It doesn't have a TV show, and when it did no one watched it or cared. The belts don't mean crap when they don't represent anything; they're just titles with "history" attached to them but are essentially meaningless and it gets really stupid when FTR is treated as a big deal because they hold three virtually meaningless tag titles.. they're a big deal without them being champs of two nonexistent tag divisions.
I think AEW could have a really good thing going if it was just: AEW World Title AEW Women's World Title AEW Tag Title AEW TNT Title AEW TBS Title
It was a few belts for a decent sized roster, even with the traveling outside promotion belts. I feel like that could've been the perfect amount, though I think the AEW TBS Title was a bit much as the roster isn't that deep.. I think the All Atlantic Title is mostly meaningless though I can see what they're going for with it being a sort of traveling belt. The Trios titles were a cool addition but it really feels like AEW missed the perfect time to have those as many of the original trios that AEW had going on aren't really as prominent in the company. The FTW title is fine too as a prop but it's really lost a lot of what made it feel special early on, even outlasting the length of its original incarnation...

Why are you trying to make things a competition or different? My point was both promotions have too many belts.
I do imagine though, if ROH gets it's own show, they won't have them compete on AEW anymore.

Your entire post is comparing AEW to WWE. You're the one that brought it up.

I don’t see a problem with any of it, as we’re going through a transitional period - once roh has it’s own designated program any issue will be resolved.

I’d personally prefer one womens title. If Dynamite and Rampage were presented as separate brands, sure two womens champions would make sense. Jade should be the only champion in the division.

Ideally for me a promotion should have 4 if you’re not doing a brand split thing.
World Tag Mid-card Womens/Other title
