Apologies if this is in the wrong section, but figured it would get the most attention on the main board.
I know that Mattel only first introduced swappable hands a few years ago. Is it possible to change the hands on older figures? Was not sure if the pegs are different and don't want to risk breaking anything if it is not recommended.
The latest Elite Tatanka includes extra hands that are doing the "tomahawk" pose and I was hoping to swap them onto his original Elite which is a much older figure. Looking to update a few other figures I have as well if it is doable. Thanks in advance!

Ok, so the older hands have different pegs on them. You have to heat them up to get them out and even then it's tricky because the heat can cause the peg to tear and get stuck in the hole. This happened with an older Kevin Owens figure of mine that I was trying to swap the left hand out on, it's awful. It can be fixed but you need a drill tool to do it and the old hand will be unusable.
All that said, for the figures I've tried it on, if you can get the old hand out, the swappable hands just pop right in and out. Not sure if this holds true for all figures though, I haven't tried using Swappable hands on anything earlier than the Festival of Friendship Kevin.

I don't recommend it. The pegs on the older figures are likely to break and get stuck. I was tempted to put John Cenas open palm hands on a Tye Dillinger figure to do the 10 gesture but decided not to after breaking a figure before.

Many of the swappable hands pegs are a little small for the older elites and the hands tend to swing more freely and may be difficult to keep in position for posing.

Old hands need to be heated to remove and new ones need blue tack to stay in tho.

Only on some I've done the hand upgrade to a lot of my ultimate upgrades and I've never used blue tack and they fit just fine

Yeah I wanted to put open hands on street clothes razor, as opposed to fist and mic holding hand he come with. Thought I was about to break him, don’t wanna do all the heating so I’ll keep it stock

I've had varying results. Most average-sized talent, John Cena, and other 250lbs-ish wrestler will have the same size hole to take the swappable hands, after boiling/popping the existing hand; take heed to the caution everyone has said about the old peg being fragile. There are exceptions, like Arn/Tully, larger athletes, that have much bigger peg holes. Like others also said, blue tac will fix that problem.
In general, swappable hands on older figures are awesome; it brings new life to the figure. =D
