What was your first car?
Why did you get that one?
What did you love or hate about it?

2002 Dodge Caravan.
It was my grandma's and she no longer needed it because she died.
I loved everything about it. Easy to drive, lots of space.
I miss it and would love to get another.

Early 70s Toyota Corona. I got it because it was my grandma's (whom I lived with), and she decided to give up driving when I got my driver's license. She had a live-in chauffeur! I loved it because it was great on gas, and only broke down one time in the 20-ish years that we had it. She took amazing care of it, and we only had the starter go out on us once. What I hated about it, was it was TAN, and definitely NOT a girl-attracting car. You can read more about the Corona (NOT COROLLA!!!) & see pics here: Toyota Corona 5th Generation

1987 Pontiac firebird formula 350. Repainted midnight blue.
I wanted the fastest car in my high school (1995). Some kid eventually had an old GTO with a 400. We never raced but I think he’d have had me.
It was pretty bad ass. The T-tops leaked on the driver side so I needed a towel on my lap in the rain. Oh and I got pulled over too much.
One other thing.. I installed an 6 disk cd changer in the trunk. It had a digital display for the dash with a remote controller. Insane in 1995. You had to program the display to say the band name of the disc so my display pretty much always said Wu-tang clan. Cars didn’t really have much digital display at the time other than the clock and radio station

1989 Ford Mustang Coup. 4 cyl piece of junk. Wanted to get the GT but I couldn't afford the $3,800/yr insurance. I always had problems with it, one thing after another. Transmission went once a year, engine blew, the thing would randomly conk out when you stopped and accelerated, breaks were hard as a rock and so hard to stop. It was constantly in the shop and no one could figure out why the breaks were like that and why it would randomly cut out like that. I had it to so many different mechanics. It was a nightmare. Finally I was able to afford a new car thanks to a great aunt who left me some money when she passed (not thankfully that she passed of course), just enough that I could afford to buy a cheap new car (1998 Ford Escort 4 door). That car was great. I was so happy to be able to not be in fear any longer every time I got behind the wheel.

- 1994 Daihatsu Applause
- My parent's got it for me to learn in, and eventually start driving myself in.
- We got it in early 2015. I mainly learned to drive in a Manual transmission car for the majority of 2014, so i liked how this one was an Automatic. It was well looked after before we got it, and despite the odd flaws, it still drove pretty well for its age. But the main thing i didn't like about it were those odd flaws, which did affect the performance. Some days it'd take a bit to start up, other days it'd be instant. Some days it'd struggle a bit to go uphill, but other days it'd be fine. We knew the car would be on it's last few years due to its age & these flaws, but we got the most out of it.
Learning to drive in it was going all well, and i was just about to take my test to advance to a Provisional Licence. We had the option to do the test in my car, or the one provided by the driving school, so we chose mine since i was used to driving it. Two days before the test, it was running but had a couple issues, then one day before the test it just died. The car wouldn't start, every attempt would show more & more issues, so i couldn't use it.
I ended up having to use the driving school's car which was a 2013 Mazda 3, and i thought i'd fail the test since i wasn't used to how this car drove. It did feel weird & different to drive, given the change between a 1994 car with issues & a 2013 new car, but thankfully it went well and i did pass.

1991 Subaru Loyale wagon. I got it from my Dad, who got it for free from my sister. That thing was a tank. It took a lot of abuse over it's lifetime. I still own a Subaru but that car will always be my favorite one. I still have the lighted key from the Subaru and the flashlight still works after 31 years

1976 Chevy Chevette. Red 2 door hatchback. Damn thing looked like a clown car. Got it for free from my parents. Had a top speed of 55 mph. And there was always something wrong with the catalytic converter, which made it always smell like sulphur.

Never had one since I really dislike cars and only like to make my life within 5 miles of where I live. I would prefer a horse except for the cost and maintenance. Given my age, where stamina is a bit less than it used to be, I got a scooter and have fun with that. Might get a motorcycle in a few years. My husband had a Lexus SRX, then a Sonata, and now a Jeep Patriot which he loves.

1992 Ford Tempo. I got it because it was cheap...maybe around $2k, something like that. I was a junior in high school and needed something to get around. It wasn't anywhere near my "choice" for a first car - it was white, lame, boxy, and wrought with electrical problems, but in the long term, I'm glad I had a crappy first car to sort of have that feather in my cap. Eventually the hinges to the door froze, causing it to come off in my hand when I tried to open it one winter morning. I bought a green door to replace it, then sold it to my stupid cousin who wrecked it less than a year later.

I just passed my driving test last October. I never had the motivation to learn when I was 17/18 then I moved away for university for 3 years and lived in a city so I never needed to drive until I moved home when Covid hit.
I learned in my dad's Kia Sportage and always liked how that car felt, but one of those would be way too big for me as a first time driver, and a lot more expensive to insure. I found a white 2016 Kia Rio SR7 and fell in love with it. It drove really similar to my dad's car and felt like a natural fit from the moment I first took it for a test drive.
I had some problems with the brake pads back in February, but other than that it's been pretty smooth sailing! I don't have any intention of changing it any time soon, I feel like I can probably get 5ish years out of it.

The first car I drove was my mother’s ‘80 Audi. The first car I drove once I got my license was my sister’s Gremlin. The first car I bought was a ‘71 Chevelle which I then traded with my cousin for his ‘68 Chevelle SS which was my dream car. My best friend ended up blowing the motor about three years later. Which led me to buying my first new car that I ever bought which was an ‘88 Chevy Cheyenne sport side pickup. I loved that truck, but it didn’t have an extended cab so when we had our daughter in ‘98 it’s time was numbered. And by the time she 3 1/2-4 I had to get a new truck because she kept kicking it out of gear. So we bought a ‘02 Ford F150 pickup with a crew cab so there was a back seat for her car seat. Then in ‘07 we bought a Dodge RAM 1500 extended cab Pickup. And all except for the ‘07 Dodge were manual transmissions.

Never had one. It's not really as necessary to have one in the UK as it seems to be in the US. I get around just fine via public transport and it saves me a lot of money! I'm really hesitant to drive to be honest. I can't picture myself on a motorway driving a car at all. Quite a scary thought. I'll stick to being a passenger for now.
