Hi!
Been thinking about some stuff. I only started to realize that there's crossover between comics and WWE from action figure videos on YouTube. Husband and I got the same vibe when we bumped into Raw recently from the graphics and comedy. I tuned out after an hour.
So I was talking with my ex yesterday. I tell him what's up. He's like "I told you years ago about GamerGate." Since I haven't played games since I was 13 and am not interested in culture war issues (usually), this got me to using Google. Apparently 1/6 action figure collectors are women and girls. I knew two around whom I grew up and both ended up lesbian. (One gave me a strategy guide to Legend of Zelda. We're still friends 35 years later.)
I never personally told friends about my collection. I just hid it since my brother messed with me a lot. I didn't see collecting as any different from him collecting baseball cards
One theory on Reddit presented by a feminist is that "nerds" got bullied a lot so that's why they gatekeep women. One story: girl walks into GameSpot, guys gawk or laugh at her, and she tells a guy "nice necklace." He shoots back "It's about Zelda!" as if she didn't know that. Things of that sort. I never experienced bullying except from a select few middle class girls who were inferior within that class on the food chain, which is why they were like that. Nothing big. Just mocked my mom for being a housekeeper. I messed with some Magik kids after Columbine just to be a b!tch. I do regret it since they weren't harming anyone past bad hygiene.
I majored in math and hated that environment. Reminds me of my ex's roommate in college who did math/econ. Short, buff Asian guy who wore lifts for shoes he spent $600 a pair on. My ex was doing officer training. Told me one day that his roommate begged him to go hiking in the mountains. Asian guy saw a woman there, asking him "Yo, what if we raped her? Hahahahaha" He was creeped out and told him so. Guy had a lot of anger issues.
Motive as to why I'm bringing this up: nothing personal but I don't feel welcomed on this forum. That's cool. I'll just sell everything then. Takes up too much space. I was looking forward to it even if coming here, I expected that GameStop vibe mentioned above. Too bad for one possible poster since it might cost him $10,000 were my experience here pleasant. I don't operate from a framework of changing the world ("activism"). It's kind of lame. Just leave is my view.
- Did you get bullied?
- By what kind of faction?
- Do you still feel resentment to this day?
- What explains GamerGate, GameStop behavior, and other things in that "manosphere"? I knew a few women at the community college in gamer crowds. I never really saw them treated badly. The gender ratio was horrible though (10 guys to 1 girl). I didn't hang out with people like that though.
