Warrior needed a little overhaul.
He was playing the same character he always had. Fans were initially happy to see him, but they'd been conditioned to absorb more edgy content, more blurred lines, cool heels, less incoherent promos (depending on who delivered them).
As soon as they realised he was:
a) Babbling about a great nothing
b) Replaying the same crow Sting storyline as the year prior, only less effectively
c) Literally playing the same character since what 1987?
d) Having several terrible matches
e) Unable to keep up with some of the better wrestlers on the mic/in the ring - eg DDP, Hogan, Sting, Nash....
f) Relying on hokey magical powers
He was dead in the water after like the first couple of weeks.
He needed an edge. He needed to be less comic-booky. He should have been more grounded.
He should have changed up his gear, wore a cool mask, and been more ruthless on the mic/in the ring.
He couldn't exist in wrestling in that period.
