I think it’s cool to own figures that are ‘rare’ or hard to come by…I definitely think that’s part of the game. However, it’s only a part of it, I collect for the nostalgia hit, the memories, personally. If you’re collecting SOLELY for investment and begrudging other collectors the chance to get guys they really want in their collection without paying scalper prices then you’re a bad egg and in the wrong game.
In my view.

In my view. I agree with all of this. Sometimes it also sucks to sell something rare to make some money for something else which also kind of brings fun in it. I don’t buy figures for value or because some go up but like you said it’s nice to have certain things other people want or things that were harder to find. I don’t really get the point sometimes if everyone has the same thing

harley is an exception due to the walmart issue and the line getting cut short.
no one should complain. he was UNDER released last time.

I'm patiently waiting for a couple ultimate re releases. It being superior is also awesome.
IYH HBK is one of them, Bret Hart RSE is getting an ultimate re release thank god.
Would love an HBK WM12 all decked out in better entrance gear too.
Possibilities are endless.

As someone who collects figures because I like them and not as an investment, I welcome releases of older hard to find figures. Exactly. Bring 'em on.

For every 1 figure “worth” $100-$300, you have 100 other figures only “worth” $2-$20 each. People who think they are sitting on goldmines with action figures need to logically evaluate the collection in realistic terms.
And this is coming from someone who has thousands of figures and collectibles. I know regardless of some high end pieces it will never amount to what was spent or the average value as a whole. If i was to sell in bulk or piece it out id still never break even.

I’m not a fan of rereleases and never have been. I don’t collect for value because I never sell or anything like that but I like having hard to find stuff and having stuff that maybe some people missed out on. I have even missed out on some stuff myself that’s worth a lot more on the secondary market. I hate that I don’t have stuff or have to pay high prices but it’s part of being a collector. What’s the point of buying originals if stuff is just going to keep getting released? I also don’t love repaints over and over either though You hit my thoughts on this exactly … There seems to be 2 sides to this…People that want rereleases and bash the guys that dont like it, and the guys that don't want them because collecting rare stuff is part of the fun ( i know thats hard for alot of you to get your heads around but its part of the reason i collect, i don’t tell my brain whats fun and whats not… ) I bought Bret Ringside pink and black attack for $500, its down to $300 now. I think covid era made alot of stuff worth more for those 2-3 years and its just now coming back down .. that Bret ringside is now at around $ 280-300 but it doesnt have anything to do with the new ultimate in my opinion

I bought the Ultimate HBK and the Ultimate Lesnar a couple weeks before they announced they were getting a rerelease for around $500. Didn’t throw a fit about it or lose my mind. Nature of the game. I’ll never complain about everyone getting a chance to own a figure that’s released.

Can we all agree to normalize leaving nWo Macho Man out of the re-release group? It's a different attire. The Ringside Exclusive will still hold value because it's unique from the Ultimate.

I was telling my buddy at the toy shop today that I think the new figures like Harley Race, nWo Macho and all pink Bret Hart are fantastic. It gives newer collectors another chance without breaking the bank. He agreed but also told me he didn't think the older figures would crash too much. He claimed that the ringside exclusive nWo Macho from years ago was still selling for over 150 while the current ultimate edition has been in retail for a good while and the all pink Bret was selling for close to 300 with that ultimate edition being announced months ago and close to being at retail. He said some collectors especially MOC people would probably want both. What do you guys think?? Also I've had good offers for my legends 1 Road Warriors for awhile now and I'm wondering if I should sell those now because I feel like The Road Warriors will be back sooner or later. Think I should I sell?? I stopped collecting for value, same with football cards. I get the figures I want, open them and display them. I switched to exclusively 96-00 WCW. Only thing I would get is some special edition 97 Hart Foundation set but I doubt that gets made.

Not a fan rereleases, there is plenty of sh*t I wish I had that I don’t - that my dear friends is life.
Yes I have some rare figs (Hitman, Macho RSC, LOD, Road Warriors, Demolition and so on), but there are stacks I don’t. Legends Martel, Akeem, Harley and so on. That’s collecting, that’s how it goes. I don’t whinge about not having stuff or claiming people are scalpers for trying to sell their older figures at market value (don’t get me started on that, because selling a older figure for its market value is not scalping, not even close, but I’ll leave that for another day)
All that said, I have no problem with Ultimate Target Bret coming out, it’s not a rerelease, it’s a completely different line in my view. The scale is the same, sure, but it’s still a different line. For me it’s no different if Mattel released it as a retro or AEW/Jazwares (yuck) did one, it’s not an elite, won’t ever be the elite.
If they wanted to do an all pink Hitman elite, give us Survivor Series 95 Hitman - simple. There really isn’t any reason to rerelease any wrestler, most have close but slightly different looks that could be released, in my view it’s simply Mattel trying to appease a bunch of entitled “collectors” who don’t/can’t or won’t put up the cash for the toy they want. It will hurt the line in the long term, a good strong healthy secondary market for toy lines is a good thing.
Just my thoughts 🤷♂️

As someone who was PISSED about Race back in the day I’m glad people who actually wanted him finally have the opportunity to get it. Just because I used the stimulus f#ck money for it doesn’t mean that I’d begrudge someone else the opportunity to get it. I’d be pretty psyched if I had not gotten one back in the day.
Anyway I’ve sold off a ton of my collection repeatedly, and I never get a good return, regardless of a figure’s rarity. 9 times out of ten you’re going to have to take it on the chin since it’s only worth what someone will pay at a given time. Unless there’s a moment in time (like a death) where the demand skyrockets you might have something listed for nine and a half years before you get the return that you want.

Look, here's the thing for me.
I have family who doesn't understand why I collect. They berate me time and again for taking the figures out of package because they "Lose value" and "can't be sold for as much". I have told these family members time and again that I'm not in it for the money and anyone who is is barking up the wrong tree. So you have a rare figure? That's nice. Put that baby front and center and be proud of it.
But don't begrudge anyone ever who wishes (or gets) the same figure re-released for less. So you paid 200 bucks for Harley Race a year ago and now people are gonna be able to get him for retail. You getting mad about those new collectors does nothing to get you your 200 bucks back, it just makes you a jerk. I don't care about the hunt, I don't care about rarity, I care about the pretty plastic people who stand on my shelf and make me happy.
And frankly, I feel everyone should. Love the figures for the figures and for the joy they bring you. And, if your joy is owning the rarest, most hard to come by figures that make you feel awesome for owning them? That's fine too. Just don't get mad when the value of those figures fluctuates. They're not coins, they're action figures. Some people might even call them toys. They should bring you delight to see them, and you should be happy that others get the same delight from theirs.
