Anyone else love the atmosphere of the Hog/Road Wild events? Just re-watched the 1997 and 1998 shows and the unique look/atmosphere is a breath of fresh air for sure, especially compared to todays events that all look identical. Yeah, WCW didn’t make a live gate off this event but the look adds to the show IMo.
Anyone hope a company would do something unique like this today, even as a one-off show?

I loved the look of it but from all the talent stories the shows were an absolute disaster on the talent.

What I remember best from the shows is def the outdoor setting there in Sturgis.Awesome sight for sure
The best show is 96 as you had Rey/Dragon,Naitch/Eddie,Hall/Nash/Sting/Luger and Benoit/Malenko.Plus this show is infamous for Bobby Heenan being HAMMERED lol

Mysterio/Psychosis, Saturn/Raven/Kanyon, Jericho/Jueventude, and the Battle Royal were all fun.

Loved it. It was something different and fun. Plus a outdoor show in the summer? Hell yes

Opponent wise, give em Hogan in the rematch Put Giant or any other NWO member in the Leno tag match

The 1996 show was the best show they ever did.
Not only did you get a solid 3 hour PPV of great matches, the 2 hours before hand aired live on TBS for WCW Saturday Night. So fans watching that got to see the first 5 minutes free since WCW Saturday Night ran 6:05 - 8:05.

It was unique and really set it apart from your standard PPV. But at the same time, how many of the bikers in attendance were actually wrestling fans?

They were unique settings being outside. Which were a nice change of pace. From what I remember I think I liked the look/atmosphere of all of WCW’s outside shows.

It shouldn't have been a PPV. It should have been a taped Nitro. It took a pay perview event away from real fans

The majority of them were probably waiting for Stone Cold to come out. Luckily the majority of them likely being intoxicated for most of, if not all of the event helped create a fun atmosphere.

Just finished my re-watch of Road Wild 1999. Sting/Sid is a hidden gem from that era. Is it a five star classic? No, but considering the era was full of gimmick matches and dirty finishes from both WCW and the WWF, it was a nice surprise to get a hard hitting, clean finish from two main eventers.
Rest of the show is meh outside of Benoit/DDP, but Sting/Sid is recommended.

I enjoyed it Having not watched this show in years, I had forgotten Sid got the win so it was a nice surprise. Always been a Sid fan and loved his run during this time. The win made sense for him too as he was being built for a feud with Goldberg (that was also a solid feud considering where WCW was at that point).
