I remember a simpler time when sought after figures got scalpidy scalped. Classic Superstars Sabu comes to mind. With current elite figures no matter how good they are I seem to easily obtain them. Even super rare chase figures(AEW Punk) I can buy at reasonable prices. Any of you know of their existence or are scalpers extinct.

I have no idea, but I don't buy figures in person anymore. I think some people have just slowed down on buying and maybe the prices reflect on that. I know personally I've lost a lot of interest in collecting in general and am now prioritizing my money and energy elsewhere. There's not a lot of characters I'm interested in and I've sold most of my collection. I'll buy a figure here and there. The last figures I bought were the Legends Acolytes. I think the same applies for the product, I'm probably not going to tune into WWE as much anymore after this Wrestlemania. I don't care for most of the roster. Actually, I can't remember the last time I was super hyped to get a figure or hear a lot of commotion here over a new signing. I remember the days where it was near impossible to find a CM Punk elite.

I think people finally smartened up and just stopped feeding into it.
I’ll still see a few randoms pay double retail plus shipping for a brand new figure but overall it’s seemed to really die down.
I’m also convinced that scalpers work as a group. I think they’ve got their little minions who try to scare off regular sellers so they can try their best to control the secondary market. Reason I say this is I posted a figure in a Facebook group a year or so back and I was trying to sell it for less than the going rate for it. I got mostly laughing reactions and several comments from people saying I’d never get that much. I pointed out my price was lower than what others have posted the figure for in the same group but I guess that was above their comprehension level because I got some of the dumbest reasons for why theirs was a “better deal”

There was a ton of scalping going on around 2020-21. Tons of buyers who would go in and clear out a store to flip online or at shows when they started to pop up again.
Between supply chain issues, disposable income, and FOMO, you had a ton of collectors paying ridiculous prices for recently released figures. Fortunately many of the companies ran of second and third batches, suppressing secondary market prices. I think a lot of the scalpers got bit when demand dried up, and supply and demand seem to be pretty well aligned right now.

I feel like they changed the way they scalp. Now it's more like getting it quick and flip it before the masses get it, unlike before where it was like hoard everything and then you are the only seller. At least that's what I've seen with the RAW IS WAR ring and the RAW 30th Anniversary set.

The toy and collectibles bubble popped last year, most of them cashed out after selling E90 Chief Jay Strongbow and are on a vacation resort right now.

eBay still it. And depending on where you live, sometimes you end up paying more than you want to for a figure that’s easily attainable elsewhere.

I mean just wait for the next SDCC exclusive and the meltdowns that follow. It really depends on the exclusivity of the figure at this point. Everyone is mostly aware that most everything that isn’t an exclusive with go up on Amazon and Ringside will even sell the chase figures.

I personally think distribution has gotten so bad that many of the scalpers gave up;
You won't find most Elite sets at Walmart or even Target; Newer Superstars & the Ruthless Aggression series have been shipped to Part Unknown. Target's Legends are mostly easy to obtain via their website, so why would anyone pay a scalper?
Maybe they can't obtain the figures to scalp; Because they aren't available.

These are MASS PRODUCED figures. Mattel is a giant powerhouse of a company and they're producing enough so they're the ones who get the money, not the scalpers.
Also the collecting surge from the early days of covid has gone away and things are more back to normal while toy companies across the board increased production after that burst of demand (just look at how Marvel Legends are clogging pegs at the moment). Demand is high, supply is higher, and I'd argue Mattel has really hit the sweet spot in that regard so scalpers aren't the ones raking it in.

I think there's much less flipping opportunity in wrestling figures particularly, since we all get our stuff from a few major sites and Mattel makes so many that we can even preorder chases. It's mostly just exclusives or other limited/specialty figures that get scalped.
It's largely the same for other types of figures now. If I wanted to make money off figures, I'd buy heavily on a boutique product with a time window preorder and be aware I might have to hold onto stock for awhile. Anything mass market, it's like, what could the margins possibly be for buying a $20-25 figure at a major retailer and eBaying it? It's taxed income and eBay takes a cut.

No, they are hibernating.
Some of them were forced to get a real job, so there's that too.

Even that I think might have also been kind of a knock-on effect of the guys who were already going into the stores to scoop up the trading cards. Diversifying their stock with an adjacent product. The companies responded shockingly well to that, I agree, like there seemed like a clear awareness from companies like Mattel of what was going on and what needed to be done.

Scalping died because online stock is plentiful, no FOMO, government checks ran out, price increases, greatest hits and re releases.

I preordered like two Mezco figures from like last year and might have to sell them off, even though I don't want to. I think higher end figures are a little easier to let go of than wrestling figures because people are willing to spend more and might just have a bigger budget. Just selling off a large portion of my wrestling collection was a headache within itself with lowball offers, selling figures for discount cheap, buying supplies, paying for shipping and then taking losses from Ebay cuts. You also get the occasional Ebayer with zero feedback who then claims their package never arrived either. BTW, did that tax law go into full effect?

We (the scalpers) will always be here... loitering in the darkness...always watching for that flicker...that....illusive moment when an oppertunity arises to take your hard earned cash. Perhaps you will see us as you walk through your store...yes we will even take the box damaged stuff and sell it loose....but have no doubt...we are there in the shadows waiting...eventually we will get something good...something that you must have that is in short supply.....and when you click that button....when the temptation of a quick buy it now easy fix gets to much for you to resist...WE will happily take your cash......so why fight it? Go on....buy from us and its gonna feel.....so good.
