I guess Sami skeptics would say that while he's definitely over, he's not QUITE Daniel Bryan '14 level (didn't have crowds completely hijack the show in his honor, was still most over in Montreal specifically, and though he's over in other cities, he's not Montreal-level over in all cities), and that Cody is WAY more over than Batista in early '14, as far as why they didn't recreate the WMXXX situation with Cody, Sami, and Roman.
What do you think? Should they have called the audible?
Sami may not be DB '14 level over, but he's at least 75% of the way there. And while Cody is WAY more over than Batista '14, why not split the belts up before the Chamber and put one on Sami at EC and one on Cody at WM?
I know that would be two losses in a short period of Roman, but so what? The guy has dominated the company the last near-decade.

Nope. Sami and Kevin beating the longest reigning tag champions in company history is the story. Cody beating Roman one on one is the story: It’s going exactly how it should have.

I’m 50/50 tbh, I’d say yes but Cody winning should be great stuff.
Sami winning the Tag Titles with Owens should also be great stuff, Sami should be World Champ by SummerSlam.

Cody will get booed at Mania, maybe not by the entire stadium but there will be loud boos. Fans online are already tiring of his repetitive promos and getting shoehorned into The Bloodline stuff.
Sami isn't on a DB level yet but he's the closest thing since. The story of him dethroning Roman has been building for months so it shouldn't be pushed aside for Cody who has zero history with Roman.
Honestly the only way this entire Cody fiasco will work is if he turns heel after winning the gold. His entire Road to Wrestlemania doesn't at all paint him as a face.

No. I might have hoped for Sami to create that organic special moment that highlight reels are made of by winning, but that only could have logically happened if there was a second world champion already and he was facing Sami instead. Sami beats Roman before WM and now Cody is no different than Roman beating Taker after someone else ended the streak first. It's a great feat and now he's got that accolade but it's not nearly as important after the streak's been broken or the king's been dethroned. Sami winning would have diminished Codys win but that's their own (Vince/HHH/somebody) fault for not splitting the titles sooner. Then again, hindsight is 20/20 and who could have predicted Sami Zayn's story to become a focal point of their programs.
EDIT: I am not going to be a fan of how Cody gets to come in to win the rumble and get the reward of beating Roman handed to him after Sami carried that story IF this is the last time we see Main Event Sami. If getting the tag titles (presumably) as a secondary prize is all he ends up with (which I doubt) then I would not be a huge fan of that. Especially when the story naturally unfolded in a way that should have ended with Sami getting the W but AGAIN that isn't Codys fault. That's just the way it organically happened during his return from injury. Also both belts were still on the same guy so I have to point out that they painted themselves into that situation. Either Vince did and Hunter was left to unfook it, or HHH couldn't find a better scenario to break them up yet either. Idk. This is the best we can hope for right now though, it's still going to be a stellar card with great matches and moments. Plus they can always keep that fire under Sami and let him simmer in other feuds until it's his time again. That's the good thing about wrestling/art. It's all subjective and there's room/an audience for all of it.

I wouldn’t be against them doing a 2-fall triple threat. It’d be a great way the split the belts and let Roman continue his universal title reign while allowing Cody to achieve his dream of being WWE Champion.

Yes, because the WWE wants a world champion that won't go to their most lucrative shows of the year.

No. Cody is the guy. People are saying, “oh the fans are turning on him.” I don’t hear it. He’s still over and I don’t see that changing anytime soon.

The fans seems to be just as if not more into him then before his injury, sure maybe couple fans on the internet is b*tching about him but when does that not happen with a guy holding or getting ready to hold the title? For the question, the story was to far along for Cody to dethrone Roman. Everything imo has been done almost to perfection, Cody wins the titles and Sami finishes up dismantling the Bloodline piece by piece. Sounds great to me.

Anyone who thinks that Sami should have won has no idea how to do anything in wrestling. It would have been the dumbest thing ever to do. Sure Sami is over, but do you really think that the WWE would waste everything they have done with The Bloodline for a silly one night pop??
I get it though, people wanted him to win to make everyone feel better. But look at the whole picture and if you can't see that. Then look harder.

It’s not even close to the same situation. Literally the only comparison is both became an organic babyface that’s super over
Bryan won the title clean and got screwed out of it by the authority and then there were obviously no plans to keep him in the title picture/main event scene and fans completely rejected it.
Sami was a comedy act that made the Bloodline story better. Fans wanted Sami Uso. No one was chanting for Bryan to join the authority. Sami has many other wrestlers involved in the angle. There’s a story there with Jimmy and Jey. KO is in the mix. It’s never ever been strictly about Sami and Roman and the titles. Sami was still in the bloodline but chose not to attack KO - that’s the story. Jey wouldn’t attack Sami. That’s the story.
Fans booed Batista and Orton. They’re not booing Cody. There’s a small online group of fans that keep trying to push the narrative of Sami got screwed, fans are turning on Cody, etc and none of that is true.
And if Cody gets some boos at Mania, so what? He’ll be included with a list of legendary wrestlers who have received some boos at WrestleMania.
Let the stories play out and just enjoy it. Don’t work yourself into a shoot. Wrestling history has many big names that never won the WWE title. Sami will be just fine. He’ll never be more over than he is now so technically he’s already peaked.

Something I wanted to say earlier but didn’t was there’s a couple ‘influencers’ with a large following that keeps pushing a FALSE narrative of “Sami is more over and fans are turning on Cody”. It’s really annoying.

Nope. “Wrestling has more than one scruffy-looking underdog” just isn’t as big-time a concept as “wrestling has more than one royal family.”

It’s really annoying. I’ve seen what you’re talking about and it’s gotten old quick. I haven’t seen nearly as much since Elimination Chamber, ironically, so I’m hoping it’s all settled down. Live crowds with paying fans’ reactions don’t marry up to what’s being told across the internet.

My biggest criticism about Cody was entering the Rumble at 30. How lazy... it wasn't a surprise but rather the least surprising thing of the whole show. You're probably right about him turning heel. They probably wanted to be as low risk with him coming from an injury but that was something he should have entered in the first half and anticipated the whole match. We can all blame Dwayne for the ed up WM card now. Cody vs Reigns is random AF. Zayn has surpassed the entire roster in popularity now. I'd rather see Zayn vs. Owens than them vs. the Usos, which is starting not to make sense either. Now it's looking like Lesnar vs. Omos and Lashley vs. Wyatt. The whole card is truly a mess.

Yes, because the WWE wants a world champion that won't go to their most lucrative shows of the year. "Won't" go? Or can't go? Infinite difference.
