Anyone who thinks that Sami should have won has no idea how to do anything in wrestling. It would have been the dumbest thing ever to do. Sure Sami is over, but do you really think that the WWE would waste everything they have done with The Bloodline for a silly one night pop?? I get it though, people wanted him to win to make everyone feel better. But look at the whole picture and if you can't see that. Then look harder. IMO, they shouldn't have booked that match/defense for the penultimate PPV of the year. The whole existance of the match was the problem for me because it didn't allow any possibilities with WM in a month and Cody's Rumble win. They should've booked Zayn/Owens vs. the Usos at EC. Reigns could've been like "you have to go through them to get to me, Cody is deserving of a title shot before you even if you attacked the bloodline" and kicked the can down the road. I know some people don't want to legitimize Zayn, but he has it all and should get a main event program especially if guys like Kofi, Big E, Jinder Mahal, Miz etc. have been world champions in recent years.

I think we’re just backed into corner.
Whoever beats Roman needs to be top level babyface For the next 5 years period.
I think there should be bigger story between Roman and Cody. I think Cody should of faced Roman at Summer Slam. With Cody getting screwed out of the Rumble, by someone. And Cody’s mania program and Cody starting slow burn program to summer slam to face Roman.
I think we still can get some mileage with Roman as Universal Champion; I think he should only drop the WWE Championship.
And the issue of Zayn getting his wings in this feud. On top of if we are ever gonna get Rock match.

I do feel like Cody Vs Roman 1-on-1 is a HUGE match, probably one of the biggest matches they've had in years. I can't remember the last time their world title picture in the WrestleMania main event featured two characters as hot as these.
Adding Zayn isn't going to come off in the same way that DB did at WM30.
Zayn and Owens winning the tag titles off of the Uso's is going to be great, though.
All things considered I imagine doing the singles match and the tag match will be a lot more satisfying rather than a triple threat.

That I agree with. Maybe if they pulled the trigger a little earlier like "War Games" then the WWE wouldn't have painted themselves in a corner. Sami could have had a couple month main event run, but still not win the title.

Cody/Roman tells the biggest story. they could’ve fit a lex Luger title win for Sami in if earlier in the story, but they didn’t.
I’m more excited for the Cody/Brock feud though.

Sami 100% should've been the one to dethrone Reigns. Like someone said, Reigns and Rhodes have no history, connection or any kind of interaction, thus far. I know it's all about Cody's big homecoming and finishing his story... but I'd be lying if I said I didn't resent Cody a little for getting in Sami's way - and getting the prize that Sami's earned, and deserves just as much.

In any other situation, Sami would be the one to end it but doing so would be giving Cody the shaft. It worked with Batista in 2014 because he wasn't well received to begin with plus he works better as a heel. Cody has the big return and the redeeming storyline, Right guy, kind of wrong time. A Triple Threat would bring Cody's momentum to a massive halt and make him an afterthought.
Sami ending the longest reigning tag team champions is obviously no demotion. Provided Cody wins at Wrestlemania, we have a better chance of smaller guys getting the WWE Championship so there may be a top title reign by Sami down the line.

There's a lot more story left to tell. This was his first attempt at the belt, and narratively he didn't do anything different from all of the other challengers, to make him a unique threat. He was just in his home town. To beat Roman, you need to get rid of the Bloodline. Sami can do that, but he hasn't yet.
Why ruin Cody's big match (which I also think Roman should win, unless Sami helps remove the Bloodline) to skip to the ending of a story?

The story between Sami and Jey is far more interesting than Sami beating Roman for a big feel-good moment. So no, Sami shouldn't have won.
We also don't know how much interaction/teasing of the match between Hell in a Cell and Royal Rumble we'd have got had Cody been healthy.

No. Sami is not a main event talent. He is in the hottest angle in wrestling and it would be a cool moment…..but after the feud with Roman, he isn’t selling out arenas. Almost half the roster could have been booked in Sami’s spot.
