I’ve just started collecting Ultimate editions and it seems that they’ve just began implementing drop down hip articulation. However it seems like many are complaining that the quality of those joints are not the best and that they can break easily. Furthermore I’ve been looking at video reviews and it seems that the actual articulation isn’t much significant and in some cases even less articulate than non-drop down hips! As seen here: imgur.com/a/tsgexJX (Miz is old school elite and Goldberg is a pre-drop down hip Ultimate Edition. Old school Elite Miz seems to be beating drop down hip Ultimate Brock and AJ) I’m just wondering if the trade off for 10 percent (or even less) of added articulation is worth the risk of damaged, broken or loose joints?

I hate them, absolutely hate them. They feel very weak and like they're going to snap at any given moment.

I’m more of an AEW fan so I have no interest in collecting current superstars at this moment, so I’m only buying ultimate edition WCW guys and none of them have the drop down hips so far, but from what I can compare form YouTube videos and my own non-dropped figures, it seems that they are a bit useless and can ruin the cut of the figures at times lol.

I'm mixed on it.
At the end of the day, these are toys for kids, with the best and most playability provided as much as they can.

Not a fan. I have older SH Figuarts figures that have it and they've become a floppy mess. Ive also had some GI Joe Classified figures that have loose issues right out the package. Drop down hips along with toe articulation...so unnecessary.

Hopefully this doesn’t raise up the price point

Drop down hips are worthless. When expensive $100 import figures can’t get them right, there’s no reason domestic $20 figures should be implementing them. They often become loose, legs get “gummy” at the ball joint where we can risk breaking them, and when done right, don’t offer much more range to justify the price increase. Manufacturers need to do away with this feature.

It’s Mattel dipping the line further down that adult collectible end I get what you're saying but these are still considered toys as Mattel #1 mindset is kids and then adult collectors. I have a bigger issue with black casted/skin painted torsos. To me, THAT makes the figure cheap. And should never be considered in a premium line. (Thankfully the re release of Bret fixed this issue, but seems to be on a case by case basis, yes I'm still salty about new gen Diesel 😂) Adding in drop down hips adds more flexible articulation. More articulation means better playability. The further we get away from the god awful jakks RA/Deluxe lines the better.

I don’t think the hips articulation add anything tbh and if they do it’s minimal as I showed in my OP url. Elite regular Miz from 2012 kicks higher than both the new AJ and Lesnar.

Absolutely hate them. Hate them, I actually thought I broke the new Brock ultimate the other day because of this drop down hip. What purpose does it serve or help with ? They feel weak and I don’t really see any added articulation. I think they’ll be a lot of quality control issues with these.

I have the old and new standing right next to each other. The drop down hips can do the knee up entrance pose in a much more realistic way.

Never a fan of them. I feel it makes the hip area more fragile because now rather than it (the stem) being one solid piece it’s multiple smaller pieces. And to me I feel the more smaller pieces added to a design makes the figures more fragile. I have hated the design on every Mafex, DCD Icons, Figuarts, GI Joe that utilizes them. And with the DCD figures I ended up gluing them in place because DCD are so fragile to begin with I felt if they fell off the shalf they’d snap. And they were on the lowest shelf of the cabinet.

They allow for near perfect side splits. No other figures I have can even come close to doing the splits.
