Next Crowd Fund will be EXPENSIVE

It’ll clearly be a hospital room set with Vince McMahon, 1st tier Mankind with socko, 2nd tier Yurple, and 3 tier Dr Stone Cold with bedpan.

I think the next Mattel crowd fund is doomed before it’s announced. Will it be amazing? Yes! Will it be something the vast majority of collectors want? Maybe!

The last crowd fund is coming up to 2 years ago. COVID money was flying around like never before in the collectables market. ASMR was being delivered to all the 70s, 80s and 90s kids by way of the toys they grew up with. We couldn’t get enough of it. Prices skyrocketed and it didn’t matter, we had nothing else to spend our money on. Hell, some were “investing” in pictures my 5 year old could draw in 2 mins because they had a catchy tag line - NFTs.

Fast forward 2 years. The world is back to (new) normal, sell offs of those “collectables” happen every other day and quite frankly, most of us have less money (cost of living) and more options to spend it on (travel and entertainment etc.).

More expensive doesn’t mean better. Just means it cost more. Inflation is at an all time high, it could be assumed that we’ll actually get about the same or less than the last crowd fund. Let’s hope not, but unless it includes another ring (which the last crowd fund paid for the tooling of), it’s likely the price increase is driven by inflation only, not the inclusions coming.

Let’s for the purpose of the argument suggest the next crowd fund is $299 + shipping. And, if we agree that purchasing (and yes investing) of collectables was at an all time high 2 years ago, we quickly get to the next couple of problems. No one has the cash they did last time and I’d suggest most of those who doubled or tripled down last time (myself included) aren’t willing to do it again. I’ve got other places (Hot Toys and traveling) to spend my money. You also have Mattels current approach to just reissuing the more ‘valuable figures’, what’s to stop them from reissuing any of the crowd funds? This approach probably hits the amount of resellers/investors that buy in on more then one.

(No this isn’t scalping, if something is made to order and YOU chose or have to pass, then get stuck paying more, that’s life, not scalping. No one prevented you from getting it except you / or your personal circumstances…. Scalping is buying up supply to generate a market, there is no longer supply issues with made order items like this, they’re made to order)

Lastly, the last crowd fund was FAILURE until the pivot was made to include Macho as an early bird offering. There are a lot of collectors out there who just simply don’t want (no room, don’t collect, too expensive whatever) the rings, stages etc for their figures.

Why buy/back something when I can just wait, get the figs I want off eBay and let everyone else lay out the cash for yet another ring or stage I have no room for.

im down to back one (MAYBE 2), assuming the figures are awesome, but i won’t be backing 3 or more.

I may back it if it's got some 1st time in line ultimates if it's a stage cool I will sell it as I don't have room anymore.

See a lot of people saying it’s going to be a HIAC or smack down stage. Gotta look at it this way, if they’re saying this one is going to be “expensive” no way it’s going to be a HIAC. Don’t see why a giant cell would be more than $250. This has got to be the Nitro Stage or Elimination Chamber considering how big and cool the Nitro stage was when it was shown. And only other thing I see that could match that as being expensive would
