even tho he was past his prime, i LOVED when he came back in 1987. still wish he woulda made it to survivor series 87 and teamed with hulk, orndorff, etc. wanted to see him tangle with andre, bundy, gang, & rude in that match.

As I have mentioned on more than one occasion Superstar Billy Graham was my father’s all-time favorite wrestler and my favorite story about Graham is the one he told me. Now first let me tell you about my father he was a big man 6’2” and somewhere around 250-265lbs during this time. He worked for NJ Transit as a bus driver. His routes over the years were usually in some of the worst areas of NJ and Port Authority in NYC. He was probably the toughest man I knew and he had been know it get into a few fights over the years because he wouldn’t back down from anything regardless if he was getting held up or passengers were giving him a hard time he would fight.
Anyway he used to tell a story about an event in the early 70’s where he and a few of his friends went to a show where Graham was at. He goes on to tell how he and his friends were getting on the wrestlers as they walked the aisle. And one of his friends grabbed or knocked Grahams hat off his head and started talking crap to Graham until Graham stopped and turned to them lifting his hand as if he was going to backhand them. My father said with that he sat back down in his chair and kept quiet for the rest of the night because Graham was the largest man he had ever seen. And he had realized in that moment Graham could have destroyed them all in a matter of seconds. lol
I personally loved when Graham came back to the WWF as the Karate master and tore Backlund’s world championship apart with his bare hands as Backlund cried “Why?!”

Sadly, he was before my time. I didn't really see anything on him until the WWE put out their DVD on him in the 2000s. I watched that and became a huge fan. I've since gone back and watched a number of his matches, mostly at MSG. Like the The Brain said, shame they didn't turn him face at the end of his title run in 1978, he would have been a huge babyface with that audience. It also would have been cool to see him against Hulk Hogan during the 80s. He was ahead of his time. Mattel needs to make a few more elites, and an Ultimate Edition figure of him. |

My childhood memories of Billy is just him managing Don "The Rock" Muraco, so I really have not much to say on this thread.
Any wrestling from the 70s, I have a hard time watching for some reason. I think it's cause I was born in 1980 so all the stuff I am familiar with is pretty much from Hulk Hogan being WWF Champion and on.
I have seen the Billy Graham matches though from his title reign, and the crowd was always crazy during them, so he definitely had something happening that the fans loved about him then!

Am I right in thinking he was meant to be on Hogans team at Survivor Series 87?
Much like HBKDaddycool said he was before my time as well and the 70’s era is one I struggle to watch. Was pretty cool that as a heel he had a nine month run as champ though. Quite substantial for the era.

He was before my time, but I enjoyed his book and the documentary about him.
My only childhood memory of him was this really weird hit piece in the WWF magazine where they really went after the guy, it was the first tim I ever read something like that in the WWF magazine. I'm sure the article was called, now it's our turn or something like that.

I loves his matches with Dusty in the WWWF. He was so far ahead of his time. When you talk about a trailblazer in this industry he’s the very definition of one. His physique and mic skills really set him apart from the competition. It’s a shame he fell off in the 80s. I really wish I could have seen him in his prime. Get well soon Big Dogg!  |

Hope he pulls through. Another guy who I haven't seen any history of but jeeze was he absolutely jacked. His arms look bigger than the 24" pythons on the Hulkster there. Also every attire I see of his is just stellar.

I hate to break the news but Billy just passed. R.I.P. Superstar. You were before my time but one of my favorites. I wish I could have seen you in your prime. God bless you Billy. You’re up there with Dusty now 😞
