So, what did the final percentage get to before it ended? I forgot to check last night. 78%

I’m pleasantly surprised that…so far…everyone is taking this well. I’d figure there would be meltdowns, board wars, mass bannings, and everything else. However, I DO realize that the day is still young.

Mattel screwed Mattel.
If our American collecting buddies had backed us International bros with questioning the “discrimination” we would had backed it all together.
- distribution sucks - UE scale sucks - the pandemic FOMO culture deadset ruined this hobby
It is true more adults buy toys than kids nowadays so they probably think “watch them just pay it”
I think they have a harder time with is WWE fans (as opposed to He-Man etc) because our genre is based off real life, real people, real details - real collectors we deserve better.
Sorry to the scalpers who backed 2-3 too.
Just give us a smaller Wrekkin version with yet another Hulk Hogan and we will call it even…
I really don’t see why they can’t try again with the RAW is WAR stage, why can’t the tooling be made then? $400 2in1 even woulda been possible in this day and age with $2mil.
We can all learn from this.

I'd add the timing - the Crowdfund dropped during Wrestlemania week, when the most avid fans wallets are MOST stretched already (travel, tickets, meals, souvenirs)..... THEN they also dropped a bunch of other cool Pre-Orders LITERALLY less than 48 hours after the CrowdFund started (GobbeldyGooker, Defining Moments, and new Target Legends). We often go up to 4 consecutive months during the year where there is NOTHING NEW TO BUY..... and they dropped this $400+ item during a week where there were TONS of other options for wrestling fans to spend money. Crowd funding in general typically finds more success during this time of the year. The timing was an analytical (and correct) decision. I'm not sure of the rules around here regarding posting links but it's easy to Google it. What they needed to do was drop the price $200, throw in 11 more figures, include a figure of the guy that hopped the rail at Bash at the Beach 96 that guy his head kicked in by Nash, and include a WCW Nitro fanny pack and maybe then more people would have seen the value in it. Edit: also I still can't believe people were ready to take a LOAN out for this. Despite how cool it was that is nuts. Either you have the money or you don't for a completely un-essential item. How on earth can you say the timing was the "correct" decision when the project failed? Analytics can be great, but there are times where common sense means more.... Wrestling fans wallets were stretched tight during this time of year and Mattel asked for $400 more..... then rolled out at least another $300+ in pre-orders within 48 hours.

I hope they get Sam Roberts off this position as spokesperson seller on these videos. The way he reacts to things on those Elite Squad videos, for example Elite 100 lineup and images were revealed at SDCC. They went on sale in about November. And here he was in an Elite Squad video a week before the Royal Rumble, supposedly an informed, in the know guy reacting to the Elite 100 series like it was new, raw information and the first time it was revealed. My point is that he was very annoying in the Crowdfund Mattel Creations video. In the scheme of things I would say it was one of their most important presentations to back the crowd fund. Maybe alot of casual collectors thought "this crowdfund looks cool but this presenter is annoying" and then it put them off buying it. Yes yes yes. That video was abysmal. It felt like an infomercial from back in the days in a non intentional way. While I love Steve to death and what he has done and continues to do for this line, his performance was wooden and non charismatic while Sam Roberts pretended it was the first time he was hearing about the tiers and figures. But wait....there's more. If we hit ten billion backers we get another version of wcw run warrior no one wanted.

1 million, five hundred seventy four thousand dollars raised by Mattel. $1,574,000.00! I think it's pretty good considering our food bills have doubled and virtually everything is more expensive with not as much expendable income as usual.
I really appreciate Steve and the entire team for listening to us who wanted this set. I really really really wanted it. Very disappointed. Wish there was something else we could do. Give it a week more? Or Offer a week and if you give $400.00 you get all 5 figures and the entrance. In parenthesis (Activates at $11,000.00). Reverse psychology. People think they are getting all 5 figures and the entrance and the only way they don't is if it doesn't hit the magic number. : ). But what do I know? I thought that Steiner being moved up would have had a much larger effect. Sorry for all who wanted it that didn't get it. I wanted it so bad I bought 3 and only wanted one.
I would give a thousand dollars for the WCW MONDAY NIGHT WARS SET:
WCW Entrance, Ring, Announcer's table, Eric Bischoff, Scott and Rick Steiner, Great Muta, Buff Bagwell, President Flair, Mongo, Lugar, Piper, Hulk,

Agree 100%. I pre-ordered the gooker set, defining moments and legends. And made plans for other sets for the year. And I was expected to produce an additional 400 plus tax or shipping within a month?

You know it’s actually absurd that mattel even needs to crowdfund.
They have money. They’re a billion dollar company. They could have footed 4 million into this themselves and had it be a ready to go limited item of 11k units.

They're a billion-dollar company because they don't chuck $4m on 11k units, when market demands are apparently 4k units. I think Steve has also said the "crowdfund" term is a bit misleading - it's essentially a pre-order with a minimum threshold. This sort of execution is essentially a middle ground between a pre-order and market research. Can the market support this sort of item? If so, how many? And so on.

Then I saw Defining Moments and I had to draw the line - no more. Can't literally spend that much in a month on wrestling stuff.

Maybe they'll help out the out of USA buyers by not overchanging them. Maybe WCW fans will eventually get parts of that entrance ramp? Cie La Vie.

They could have footed 4 million into this themselves and had it be a ready to go limited item of 11k units. They don't need to. They choose to. Why risk making 11k sets if there is a risk of not selling. Retailers don't typically want bigger sets taking up shelf space (being English you only need to look at how quickly Smyths reduce larger sets or the AEW ring and they still couldn't move at retail) They always knew there was a chance this would fail. That is why they use this method. They havnt lost any money doing this. They have lost "potential" profit. It was never there. Had they chosen your method they very realistically could have lost money.

There's never a "perfect" time and people will always find a reason to dispute the launch date (as they did with New Gen). That said, I do agree this feels like the most imperfect time. Most years, you'd say doing a bunch of new stuff around Mania makes sense, but economic conditions being what they are has just pulled people's stretched budgets to breaking point.

DDP just posted on Instagram that today is last day to kickstart this. Sums up the execution off marketing this crowdfund pretty well.

Glad this is over. Appreciate Steve and the Mattel team’s work on this, but people on both sides became way too arrogant, whether it was the figure influencers, who can drop $400 like nothing, or the international fans hoping it tanked. It was a great looking set, but as others mentioned, dropping it right after Mania, where fans drop thousands and thousands to travel to, and also a release of several new lines, I think that was a major flaw. The other is the pessimism in the economy.
