I’m with Warriah’
This thing definitely gets backed if not for the international cost issue.
But… it didn’t get backed. Life goes on. Would’ve been fantastic to own this but it’s over now. If Mattel does another crowdfund I’d suggest they wait at least two years and come with something very worthwhile at a more reasonable cost.

Does anybody else think that maybe, just maybe, because we haven't got official word from Steve or anyone at Mattel, that this thing MAY NOT be dead in water? The crowdfund page said "Not funded" before and now that's been taken off and it's just the generic Nitro page. Man, I hope behind the scenes they have a meeting today with management to change this thing up *cough* better figure selection *cough*. I wouldn’t expect any official word until some point after Mattel offices open Monday morning in CA. It would have to be an official email considering these are actual orders. A post on a wrestling forum wouldn’t suffice. I’m seeing a lot of people say the status shows expired in their order history when it used to say pre-authorized or something.

I'm not even sure we will get "official" word. It didn't hit 5K so it wont go into production. I don't think Mattel is going to further highlight the failure. It's possible that they can revive it or try to save it, but I think it's dead in the water. They would have to figure out the International issues (which seems to be the number one issue), try to add additional payment options/payment plans (2nd biggest issues) and potentially offer new figures since these didn't really set the collecting world on fire. If they did that, then of course, there are going to be complaints from people saying they aren't backing it because they wanted the other figures. Maybe they had a backup plan set for SDCC if the funding was within a certain amount of backers, but I get the feeling that they thought this would back so that probably isn't likely. The risk of it not backing a second time is probably too much than if they just try something else, if they do another crowdfund. If it doesn't happen this year, we aren't going to get it. Steve said they wouldn't be able to offer it for $400 next year due to inflation/costs going up every year.

I think international issues caused this to fail, but seeing the final number be so low has me thinking that it would have still been just squeaking by the 5K mark. I work for an ecommerce store that typically pulls in 10M a year, and we are 20% down YoY due to inflation right now because we are in the "luxury hobby" business. This stage is the same thing - it's a luxury hobby and this is an EXPENSIVE piece. It's worth it in my eyes due to the size, detail, and features, but I think the simple fact that inflation has caused everyone to tighten their budgets is what ultimately killed this. I'm hoping we get some official word from Steve or Mattel on this today. My order is still showing as "authorized" and have spoken to a number of others that have the same thing displaying in their account.

To be honest, I hope this is a humbling experience for Steve. I feel he got way too high and mighty with this one and thought anything he pushed would get funded. It reminds me of when I worked for Walt Disney Pictures and Pirates 3 was coming out. For weeks the advertising department was asking for direction and a budget and Disney felt they didn't need to do much because it was Pirates 3 and it would sell itself. Problem being, that was the same summer Spider-Man 3 and Shrek 3 came out, just weeks prior, and there was more buzz about those movies (because of, shockingly, their advertising campaigns). About a week before open, Disney panicked after a focus group showed awareness for the movie wasn't very high. They had the ad department spend almost $20 million in 7 days which is unheard of. The movie made more than $100 million less than its predecessor. Disney was not happy, despite the massive haul they got anyways. Went to show that you can't throw the kitchen sink in the final week at an ad campaign that failed to exist in the first place.

Glad we as a community could come together and put him in his place and drop his huge ego down a peg or two. 🤣

There is only one reason this didn't get backed. Inflation. Everything else is a moan from people that couldn't afford it. And they couldn't afford it.....because of inflation.
If this was done 2 years ago it would have pissed home, it is frankly one of the greatest wrestling figure accessories ever made.
The international situation is nothing to do with Mattel. The UK gov have made it mandatory for large retailaers to take the 20% tax of good plus shipping at purchase point, for anything over £135.
GBP USD was 1.20 when price was set.
400/1.20 = £320 Large shipments I'm getting in are costing 130-150 bucks. That's another 100 quid at least if economies of scale get that down to 70 quid,
390 + 12.50 clearance. + 20% tax = 485 quid with a low estimate of shipping cost.
To think Mattel were on the make from us is deluded.
Here is the super high optimism.
Plastic prices and crude prices have crashed since the price was set. Thought dollar has weakened about 5%.
There havent officially cancelled it yet I dont believe. Maybe, 4000 is now enough to get it done. OR, have another crack with a slightly lower price / bigger package, once interest rates start reversing and the cost of living comes down. We've already seen car prices plummet recently. It's the same principle. As I said, every other reason is a micro explantion for a macro problem.

To be honest, I hope this is an inspiring experience for Steve. I feel he can form a tag team with Bill called High and Mighty, and their gimmick can be that they think anything they push will get funded. I wish I was still taking psych classes. This thread is a case study.

Went to show that you can't throw the kitchen sink in the final week at an ad campaign that failed to exist in the first place. This serves as nothing more than a grand monument to false equivalence. POTC3 didn't fail exclusively because of marketing timing. It failed because it reviewed very badly and they over-saturated the market by releasing the third movie less than a year after the second. Most ad spends on films ramp up closer to release date - if POTC3 was such a cautionary tale, why do movie studios still do it? GOTG3 just did exactly this. Heavy promo, week of release. There are thousands of data points available to marketers (I've been in or adjacent to marketing departments for nearly 20 years) that validate urgency marketing. When you timebox something and reduce the lag time between awareness and action, you get results. It's got absolutely nothing to do with "high and mighty" or needing "humbling". It's how marketing works across most industries. If you look at the poll he put on his Instagram asking who wanted Steiner added to the crowdfund, it had thousands of responses in the positive and yet, moved very little numbers wise - that was weeks in advance. Is the issue there awareness? Apparently not. The issue is that most of the fanbase are more talk than action.

I'm sure it doesn't actually mean anything but the progress bar and "not funded" line has now been added back to the crowdfund page.
It's not in any way important, but still I am mildly curious why (after the deadline passed) it was added, removed, then added back.

I keep checking my order status and it is still showing as authorized within my MC account.

‘UPDATE: We heard the complaints that international buyers were being overcharged and thus the campaign was unsuccessful. We at Mattel have been in deep discussion about what we can do to fix this going forward. However we enjoyed the idea of scamming our international customers so much that we will not lift a finger to change this system. Therefor we have decided we will do nothing about this. Go fudge yourself and have a good day’
