I hate to beat a dead horse, but I really do think if they gave us Steiner, one "anchor" legend, and then figures that were more special rather than just new versions of Rey, DDP, Hogan, Warrior, it could have happened. Same thing if they had found a way to fix international shipping.
We'll never know -- and neither will Mattel. That stage was so cool; shame it won't exist.

Question.
How important are the LED functioning lights to you?
If they didn't have to implement the electronics, (either had one set of basic colors OR completely removed the feature), I'm curious how different the cost would be to produce.
I think the stage/platform itself was beautiful. It's not like Mattel is cranking out basic playsets the way it is.

I'm sort of thinking that - if the whole project DEPENDS on what figures are offered? Then maybe it wasn't meant to be.... The stage was amazing and SHOULD have sold 5000 units on it's own merit, with zero figures.... but it didn't. The figures were designed to be an incentive to reach those higher tiers & sell EXTRA stages, and add excitement..... but the stage should have reached 5K on it's own. It did not. Which means that fans simply didn't think the stage with two bonus figures was worth $400 (or $600 for international collectors). That's the pill that Mattel needs to swallow. The product wasn't worth what Mattel needed to charge.

Especially if it woulda brought the cost down a hundred bucks or so.

The product wasn't worth what Mattel needed to charge. I think the sad thing is that this probably would have gotten funded if the international pricing wasn't so high. Though, I don't know how much control Mattel has over that. I think there probably would have been enough people outside of the U.S. to back it if the pricing were different - the main complaints I heard were having to pay customs upfront instead of at delivery, and lack of payment options. And if the international backers pushed it far enough past the first tier, almost to the second tier, I wonder how many people who were on the fence and didn't back it would have now that they were guaranteed the Stage, Rey, Scott and DDP was in reach. Such a shame though, as the entrance stage was really well done. Who knows, maybe in a few years, if other crowdfund items work, or the economy starts doing better, or if they can find a way to bring the cost down some (if they are maybe somehow able to use the tooling or parts needed for this stage on other projects that get funded), they could try again. I think people are too overly concerned about the figure choices. I really don't know who they could have added that would have made people who didn't back the set say, okay, I don't want the stage but I'm going to put down $400+ for that figure. I mean, they did put out 3 of their biggest sellers (Hogan, Warrior, Rey), a first time in the line figure (Steiner), and another wrestler who might not get an Ultimate Edition figure otherwise (DDP). They don't have the rights to Sting. We've already gotten a Ric Flair figure. Maybe they could have added Hall & Nash, but Nash as Diesel really didn't do much for the New Generation Set. And we've pretty much gotten all their main looks from their WCW days as elites.

I do think they will try again with the Nitro stage down the road. If they fix international shipping and pick better figures theyβll have no problem getting 5000 backers. Heck with what they offered they almost got there already. It really wasn't THAT far off from being made International buyers would've pushed it past 5k Probably not quite to DDP but we would have the stage and 2 figures.

I donβt see them ever fixing the international stuff for any future campaigns.
Sometime after the new gen arena the entire site changed and they jacked up the price on every product for international buyers.
They charge taxes on items that donβt meet the threshold. Most likely the unexplained surcharge is a mix of some kind of fee for paying the tax on your behalf, a fee for paying in your local currency, and hidden postage fees.
They arenβt going to fix the entire site for just one crowdfunded item. They changed it to make more money. Obviously hurting the consumer in the process.
Had they launched this before they changed the site itβd have hit 5k and DDP easily.

I think the stage/platform itself was beautiful. It's not like Mattel is cranking out basic playsets the way it is. I didn't really think of it until the deadline passed but I would have actually preferred it without any electronic lights, and personally if I was responsible for beinging down the costs that'd be the first place I'd have started. I've never been a fan of electronics on toys, i hardly ever use such features, it's a hassle to remember to remove the batteries (incase of leakage), or plug/unplug it if it's mains, and they'd probably end up going wrong after a few years anyway (or the remote would). Anyone here familiar enough with electronics and 5000+ production run factory prices to guess how much it might have reduced the price? Honestly I'd bet it's not as much as one might imagine. And obviously they couldn't have removed it once the crowdfund began and the orders started anyway.

I still love the look of the plastic spotlights on my TTL stage that don't even have LEDs in them. I'd love to keep a few lights but I am not so interested in "100+ LEDs" or the different strobe settings.

Well even though the NItro stage isn't happening, I have to give the project some credit for getting me back into this hobby. I spent the $400 on a bunch of figures, the Raw ring, and some other hobby related itmes. Good to be back into this.

They weren't that important to me; That being said - I think Mattel was trying to improve from the lighting system on the New Gen stage, which is awkward; They don't stay on longer than about two minutes and they need to have a battery inside to work at all; there is no option to "plug it in." I think they were trying to go "next level" with the Nitro stage but it likely did add to the high price tag.

And (unpopular opinion maybe), they did not really look realistic to me in terms of what it actually looked like in real life anyway.

Heck with what they offered they almost got there already. One would hope so but it was a bad showing by the community be tough to try and risk a second failure but you are right seems like the figure selection was big issue for majority of people so never know. I just think if they do try another crowdfund the price will be the thing they focus on most so will be smaller type efforts and maybe if those are successful one day they try it in the future. "...but it was a bad showing by the community Mattel..." Fixed that for you.

I think the stage/platform itself was beautiful. It's not like Mattel is cranking out basic playsets the way it is. The lights were cool, but they weren't what sold me on it. The stage, trussing, ramp, and WCW letters are what sold me. If removing the lights was an option to cut the cost down I would still back it, and possibly back two of them. I'd still like to have the black LED bar molds on the trussing for accuracy sake, but they do not need to be functional at all.
