After making the heel 1990 thread I randomly started watching some 88/89 WWF & wow a lot of very over babyfaces departed in 88!
Junkyard Dog Killer Bees(disbanded & Blair left) Paul Orndorff Ken Patera Ricky Steamboat Don Muraco Bam Bam Bigelow British Bulldogs
Testament to the depth of Vinces roster that most of these guys weren't missed 🤔

Bigelow really fell off post Mania IV. They teased a feud with OMG stemming from the finish they had there but nothing came of it and he was gone by the Summer
Crazy to think this run didnt go anywhere considering they put em with Hogan early on.You can argue he was the #2 babyface there for a spell.Dude was over

Yeah, that was one thing that Vince was able to do well. He could always let people go and bring in new faces and still make it work. With the ones on this list, really, only Ricky Steamboat and the Bulldogs I felt still had some life left in them with this company. The others had run their course and needed something new. Though they did lose a number of faces by the end of the year, they did get some new/old faces in 1989: Piper, Snuka, Dusty, Garvin, and Demolition (switching from heels) to replace the ones they lost. I have to admit, 1989 was a great year for the WWF.

With Patera you could def tell he ran his course.I recall on PTW I believe Gorilla was ripping on em basically saying he should hang it up/that he doesnt have it anymore.

WWF and NWA were on 🔥 same here. both wwf/nwa were SOOO hot in 89. there were 6 SNME's plus the friday main event show with mega-powers vs twin towers and wcw had 5 clash of champion events in 89 as well. all the ppv's for both were kick arse too

Ken Patera got the last laugh on Monsoon with a AWA World Tag Title reign after leaving the WWF!
