the disaster that became Walmart for figures. its funny how Target became better than Walmart , i remember Walmart was doing quite well until the Flashback line really killed them. after that, its gotten worse and worse.. ive never seen a online mess or retail store mess like it.. They never restock in store and its barely a couple cases. online is just another animal with the pre-orders and instock items that are sold by 3rd party scalpers. K-mart was 10x worse (at the end)

if i have to go in , to buy a toy figure that should be online especially with a "pre-order" format, than im just not getting it. its that cut and dry. im doen wasting time, gas, effort, and dodging the people and employees to checkout also. that business model is old and outdated if they really want people to come to a store. its clear they have a dis-connect with there online portion of there business with toys , i guess. anything else i can pretty much get online from walmart with never going into a store. Mattel wont stop giving them exclusives when they want them and pay for them to be made. so we are screwed until they fix it or stop paying. Im at that point too. I got lucky in july and found the figures i had waited months for only to find myself staring at empty shelves again. I still have not figured out exactly who is at fault but my instinct tells me walmart has a serious theft problem in their warehouses. Sealed boxes of figures that are only available at walmart that cannot be ordered as sets on their online storefront and boxes that need to be opened at retail (by the cashier or stocker (to scan in order to check out) that end up on other sites before they are even released at walmart retail is not possible unless they were stolen.

Cold hard truth, unless enough people complain and demand better nothing will change. Monday Night Wars line will be just as impossible to find. Line is cancelled, rsc gets the leftovers, new walmart line announced, rinse and repeat. You're spitting facts. Feels exactly like what happened after the wwe motu line. They then announced the superstars and those are impossible to find usually. Those will probably be cancelled and as you said rinse and repeat. At some point mattel needs to realize that walmart is sabotaging their lines by not releasing new waves in greater numbers (to try to avoid pegwarmers and markdowns). I think it will backfire badly on them and mattel might take the exclusives away from walmart Target has the best selling model. They flood each wave putting out numerous boxes until every peg is filled to the brim. Then they markdown the leftovers that dont sell. At least they have a solid turnover and tons of footraffic. Even if people go to target simply to score at clearance prices, they will usually leave the store with other things as well and as the poster i quoted above said if people consistently find nothing on the shelves they will not stand in line to buy a pepsi and a candybar and they may very likely not return at all.

Mattel needs to negotiate like Hasbro.
Why cant mattel not have the store exclusives on their own website? Hasbro does.
Ringside exclusives can stay how they are.
Take target for example. The whole MMPR ninjeti line was target exclusive online and in-store. And it was also available on hasbropulse.
You can't tell me similar negotiations can't take place. I won't hear it.

I have been looking everywhere possible online and in a 6 state radius personally and distribution is the same mess everywhere. Some walmarts just dont perform. I remember talking to one regional manager and i saw 20 something cases of superstars inventory in a small forest town with like 7000 people. Either way happy to hear you got what you need. Some people have all the luck

So many logical solutions in your response. Mattel does not need walmart. They just need to rethink how they market their brands. Personally they should continue developing their online presence. I heard toysrus is making a comeback. If true mattel has a new partner soon. Walmart is just a placeholder. Their only exclusives should go online and retail should be their own future mattel store. Target is the only store that should keep their contract as they have done a good job getting people into their stores buying the product no matter the pricepoint. Having collected almost everything over the past 30 years i cannot remember a single exclusive found in a store in my walmart toy hunts. They just never make it to shelves and we know who gets them. Toysrus was slightly better but they too had their scandals of managers selling treasure hunts out the back door. Heck even target has the same problems. How many of you have ever found a hot wheels treasure hunt. In the late 90s you may Have had some luck until employees caught on. I know first hand how bad the situation became to this day. The one per case/box items created the toy hunt and exclusives killed it. There is no solution to the problem other than as you said, put their exclusives online in their own mattel store and in a hypothetical mattel brick and mortar store. .

The thing I don't get, is the entire RA line was available to purchase in the mattel store in California. I've seen countless posts on FB of people who live in California visiting the mattel store and showing pictures of the RA line on their shelves.

Even macho is a pegwarmer there. I dont think a single person would be upset to see a row full of toys like that. That is what we all grew up seeing in stores when we were younger. This is a big reason many of us still visit retail. If it wasnt for those experiences as a child i would just buy everything online and save myself tons of gas and car repair costs.

This, a million times this. Mattel is so far behind the times it's sad. I get it's not the WWE team who makes that call, but it sucks seeing what could be right across the street.

I've all but given up on Walmart. I rarely shop there anyways but I used to make special trips just to check out figures and maybe pick up a thing or two. Occasionally I'll go to pick up an online grocery order and check out the figures when I go. Rarely do they have anything I want if anything at all. I NEVER go for figures anymore and it's a shame.

Walmart needs 4ft of space up and down for Jurassic Park toys that nobody wants, and saves 4 pegs for WWE figures.
This is why there's no distribution. Stores don't order properly because there's a million pegwarmers in the spots where the tags for new items are. There just isn't enough space given to the wrestling toys on the planograms.

Most of my Target orders come from out West..

Saves 4 pegs for WWE figures - 2 of them are filled with basics. - 1 is filled with Jazwares because Walmart doesn't care and need somewhere to put those peg warmers. - The final peg is a 50/50 mix of elites from at least 5 sets ago and top picks. This crapisn't complicated, sell all mainline elites on your ing website. You don't need special permission to do that, it costs them nothing, the infrastructure is already there. I'm tired of paying extra for normal figures I should be able to find in the store. How is it Christmas in 3ish weeks and I can't find a Cody Rhodes, the number 1 merch seller in the entire business, on a peg in the largest retail stores in the US?

I think the most annoying thing is you can't check inventory at Walmarts reliably anymore. Target also groups their stores together and it's much easier for me to hit a bunch in one trip, while also being able to use their app to track stock. On one hand, it does bring back a real element of "the hunt", but on the other hand you're burning a ton of gas to go see the same thing in every store depending on how slow the local WM distribution center is getting cases out.
What I really struggle to understand is how they're supposed to compete with Amazon - I'm able to find individual items there and buy with shipping directly to my door. Walmart can't deliver anything close to that, and if having a retail outlet is supposed to be an advantage, they squander that pretty regularly as well. I'm guessing this has to do with them not having a real inventory system for these items - container items and the like that they can't just ship from a warehouse or something - but Target has at least somewhat gotten around this by taking their exclusives seriously and being able to fulfill orders by shipping them directly from the store.
I don't really pay attention to the other toys in the aisle, but as a general rule of thumb, if I see the same thing there for months (TMNT stuff at one store I frequent comes to mind), I'm basically assuming nobody's going to put any product out until a DM or vendor blows a gasket (which I don't foresee happening either).
