For those of you who don’t know, Steve was making his rounds promoting the WCW Nitro crowdfund yesterday and he did a podcast with Nick Storm and they had a decent little Q&A. I know not everyone has the time to watch, so I just thought I’d pass along some of the info from that podcast that I thought was interesting.
• Billy Gunn IS still available for Mattel to make figures.
• The Walmart exclusive Monday Night Wars line will have 4 elite sets a year - 2 Ultimate sets a year. The attires for this line will be strictly from Raw and Nitro events. This is why the Eddie Guerrero in the second Ultimate wave isn’t directly from Halloween Havoc.
• On the topic of the upcoming RA Ultimate RVD one night stand attire - Steve pushed really hard for this attire (not everyone at Mattel was on board with this - obviously some had differing opinions). Hopefully more Ultimate RVD’s will come in the future.
• Mattel Creations Cody and Logan Paul are still releasing sometime this summer, they’re finalized - no delays, but Steve said he doesn’t know the exact date these will start trickling out.
• On the topic of more Ultimate Edition Cody’s and the soft goods jacket - Steve said ultimately it would be up to the design team to decide on cloth or the plastic style jacket with the swappable arms we’ve seen on previous UE figures.
• He would love to get figures out for Snoop Dog, Bad Bunny and any other cross over talent that becomes available.
• The tag team Ultimate set is exclusive to Ringside and they’re currently good for ONE set per year.
• On the topic of torso swapping ability like the Jazwares figures - Steve said it was on his own personal radar. He said this would be a big tooling investment. It all comes down to where they decide to spend their budget. If the opportunity ever arises where they can pull the trigger on it, he’d be all over it.
• Pinless legs would be the standard going forward in 2024.
• Regarding the Walmart online cancellations - Steve said he was aware of some of the issues causing this, but he’s very hopeful these things are getting fixed in the very near future where we won’t be seeing our orders cancelled as well as better availability inside the stores. He said things could always go wrong, but he is still very hopeful.
• The Ultimate Uso Ringside exclusive set is finalized, so no changes to Jimmy’s head can be made. However future Jimmy heads would have hair more to our liking. Swap those heads.
• Steve acknowledged the Ultimate RA Eddie is JACKED. He said he has seen all the comments. He’s passed along our feedback as well as his own feedback. Sometimes things are out of his control. They will see what they can do better next time. Same thing goes for the skin tone. Steve is well aware of this, but again there’s a lot of factors that in play into everything. Licensor, sometimes talent approval/requests. In some cases it’s possible that talent would want a certain torso and they want to be presented a certain way.
• There WILL be a SDCC exclusive this year.
Steve if you’re reading this, thank you for doing the things you do. I know you’re on your own personal time when you do things like this. I appreciate you and your efforts.
